Hey Hi Happy New Year

Here's a little something we thought might be fun.......who knows ? We are raffling off 2 (count 'em) two, Happy Rhodes signed "backstage crew" tour laminents. Now as you all know there wasn't much of a tour but we had these things made anyway. Perhaps they're collector's items, perhaps they're junk. It's a laminent, worn around the neck, with a the picture from Building the Colossus and a strip that read "crew" . It comes on a lovely five cent chain. Possessing this at a show might get you put to work, but probably not past security.

Anyway, we're trying to raise a few bucks for AWOL. (Animals without love) A local Woodstock rescue and placement service that is always hurting for funding. They do an incredible job. "They".......it's really just one very special and loving man who works his tail (excuse the pun ) off. If he rescues a stray or hurt critter, he brings them to the local Vets and winds up paying the bills. he's always doing this which is amazing. His caring is unbelievable. We'd like to help out. It's Happy's #1 cause.

Entries are $2.00 each and the drawing will be March 1, 1996. Deadline to receive entry is thurs Feb 29, 1996. contest is open to anyone. The only other place this is advertised is in Rhodeways, so your chances of winning are pretty good. It's pretty much an Ectophile thing. Rhodeways says that half of the money goes to AWOL, but we're gonna give it all. Let's face it, it ain't gonna be thousands of dollars.

Include name, address, phone and we'll (Happy and me) call Friday night and congratulate you and send off your laminent. There are 2 of these things.

More entries more chances. No judges just a hat and Happy's hand. One laminent to a name God that all sounds so horribly commercial. Please forgive and Good Luck.

We'll tell you how many people entered and who won and all that on the mailing list.

Other news:

Floods, Blizzards, Fireballs and Earthquakes, but Ms. Rhodes keeps plugging along on the new record. from what I've heard, it's way cool. She's still writing, but we've already got 4 or 5 on tape and waitng for vocals.

Looking at early summer for the album paired with lots of live dates. Initially we're thinking of a Border's tour. Perhaps a trio, perhaps solo and then some evening shows in the towns she's in. We're actually setting that up now. We'll post a list as it gets closer.

New act: Hans Christian. Cellist in the world ambient vein. Very intense musician. Has played with Toni Childs, Robbie Robertson, Paul McCandless to name a few. Album is called Surrender and release date is April 16th. It's instrumental, kind of Dead Can Dance meets Andreas Wollenweider meets Gabriel's Passion. Very honored to have him on Aural Gratification.

Quiet City: Carl Adami and Harvey Jones. Killer techno record !! Extremely well recorded and performed. Some of you may know their work from "Conformity" on AG Vol 2. Release date is April 30.

There are plans for Harvey and Carl and Happy to do a remix version of her new album for the fall/winter of 1996. Should be interesting.

Happy also just sang some tracks for her friend Rob Aceto on his new record on the Alchemy label. David Torn producing. Due out also in April. This'll be hard to find in the stores as Alchemy is one of the first internet-only labels. We' try and get all the facts and post 'em if there's any interest.

In the works: My solo record hopes to see the light of day in June. Also a compilation album of artists using a device called a JamMan due out in May titled Unavoidable Delays. (Hans Christian, Kevin Bartlett, Caren Lyn, David Torn, Happy Rhodes, Jon Durant, Bon Lozaga, and others) It's all about a technique called Looping. Produced with the help of The Lexicon Company manufacturers of the JamMan and other fine stuff.

That's about it for now. Stay warm, stay dry, stay safe. And as always thanks for the support and interest in what we're doin" KB [Kevin Bartlett]
