Criminal charges have been ruled out in connection with the accident in New Brunswick on May 24 that killed a 26-year-old Charlottetown woman.
Shaye Reno died in hospital in New Brunswick as the result of injuries suffered in a motor vehicle accident earlier that day on the Trans-Canada Highway in St. Leonard. "If we look at charges it will be under the Motor Vehicle Act," said Cpl. Manon McSween, with District 10 RCMP detachment in New Brunswick. "We're not looking at criminal charges. I have no indication the vehicle was speeding and there was no alcohol involved." "I've ruled out those elements." Reno and her life partner, Dean Dunsford, also of Charlottetown, had parked on the paved shoulder of the road to change drivers when their vehicle was struck from behind by another vehicle travelling in the same direction. Reno is the daughter of actress Sharlene MacLean and well-known singer-songwriter Marty Reno and is the sister of internationally known singer-songwriter Tara MacLean. McSween said the accident remains under investigation and it could take another two or three weeks before she knows if any charges on the driver of the other vehicle will be laid under the Motor Vehicle Act. |
