Charlottetown woman died Friday in N.B. after being injured in highway accident.

An outdoor service and celebration of life will be held at the cottage of Kurt Martel on the Queens Point Rd. in Grand Tracadie Wednesday to mark the death of aspiring Charlottetown actress, musician and filmmaker Shaye Reno.

Reno, 26, died Friday night in hospital in New Brunswick as the result of injuries suffered in a motor vehicle accident earlier that day on the Trans-Canada Highway in St. Leonard.

Reno and her life partner, Dean Dunsford, also of Charlottetown, had parked on the paved shoulder of the road to change drivers when their vehicle was struck from behind by another vehicle travelling in the same direction.

That accident is still under investigation.

Reno is the daughter of actress Sharlene MacLean and well-known singer-songwriter Marty Reno and is the sister of internationally known singer-songwriter Tara MacLean.

She attended schools in Charlottetown and Halifax before moving to the West Coast where she pursued theatre studies at the Gastown Actors Studio in Vancouver.

Reno's love of the theatre dates back to her childhood and many expected she would follow in the footsteps of her mother who's appeared in countless amateur, semi-professional and professional productions.

Reno's first starring role came while still a youngster when she played Peter Pan in a production of Peter Pan staged by the now defunct Montage Dance Theatre in Charlottetown.

She appeared in several productions in B.C. before returning to P.E.I. where she continued to pursue her interest in theatre.

Most recently, she appeared in a production of The Vagina Monologues at UPEI.

Reno, who released an album two years ago, was also pursuing her interest in music, co-writing songs with partner Dean Dunsford.

Interested in film as well, she only recently applied for and received funding to commence work on a new film.

Reno is survived by her mother, Sharlene MacLean, her father, Marty Reno, life partner Dean Dunsford, a brother, David Reno, and sisters Tara MacLean, Bryde (MacLean) McFadden, Donna Martirano, Kim Watt, Jenny and Ananda Duquette.

She is also survived by her grandmother, Madrien Ferris, and by several aunts and uncles.

Wednesday's service and celebration of life for Reno begins at 2 p.m.
