Manson writes that the group has spent the last two weeks at a Madison, Wisconsin studio amassing ideas for new songs. However, Garbage has at least temporarily shelved plans for a much-discussed b-sides compilation (see "Garbage Puts Bond To Bed; B-Sides, Remixes Up Next"). Manson tells fans she can't disclose the reasons for the decision, but industry speculation says it is related to the pending closure of the band's label, Almo Sounds. The label, which was started by Herb Alpert and Jerry Moss (the same team that founded A&M Records), is currently winding down operations, an Almo Sounds spokesperson confirmed. A spokesperson for Garbage told MTV News that the band, at this point, is still signed to the label and acknowledged that the situation was expected to change. Garbage is only signed to Almo in North America, and stalled b-sides record aside, the group is not expected to encounter any problems switching to another label. In other Garbage news, drummer Butch Vig has remained busy as a producer while most of the bandmembers took a four-month vacation following the wrap-up of its last road trip (see "Garbage, Lit Line Up Campus Invasion Tour"). Vig recorded two songs with The Offspring: a cover of AFI's "Totalimmortal" for the soundtrack to the Jim Carrey film "Me, Myself & Irene," and a cover of Agent Orange's "Bloodstains" for the recently released "Ready To Rumble" soundtrack. Vig has also finished off a remix of Korn's "Make Me Bad." -- Sorelle Saidman What do you think about this story? You Tell Us. For more on Garbage, and more, check out the MTV News Gallery.
