I wrote the following review for Nantika for her web page (which is very good, I might add), and I thought I'd also email it to the list. Im sorry if you think this is boring since you already saw my 1st review. This one is a bit more structured and actually has a setlist... Mostly its me gushing. I think I talk too much. :-) Paradise Cove, Boston, MA 3/12/99 The cue to knowing when the show starts is when her manager comes out to light the candles around her. They are vanilla scented. The show was 35-40 minutes long total. She came out in a gold lame outfit consisting of a sleeveless top and pants. An audience member commented that it only looked like gold lame because of the lighting. It was silverish when I saw her later. Her hair was pinned up, like a French twist. She looked absolutely stunning. 1. Candlelight 2. Oh Me, Oh My was a very dynamic performance. The audience really responded to her, and she was very into her song. Immi promotes her Tshirt after its over and says that she designed it. There is a picture of an Angry Angel on the cover that she drew... she then talks about what this song means to her. 3. Angry Angel was a very slow and drawn out performance. The audience started getting bad at this point by chatting. Very beautiful, I think I prefer her solo piano Angry Angel to the album version. Again, another dynamic performance. 4. Rake It In - She introduces this song as the one she gets to go a little psycho. I remember she wasn't really *into* the song. You could tell she was distracted by the audience noise. She was trying to undo her hair during the part when she screams in the middle but it didn't happen. She undid it after the song was over. 5. Leave me to Love - Jazzy, similar to I Am In Love with You, actually, but different. Its a very bouncy song. The beat also reminds me of the song "Blanket" she did with Urban Species. I believe you can hear this song on the Shine single. 6. Come Here Boy - She promotes her album as being very cheap, and talks about what this song is about, her lusting after an older man when she was 16, but he was married with children, etc. Still lots of audience noise :P Lots of people taking pictures during this song. Later in the women's room I heard someone humming this tune :) 7. Sweet Religion - She comments on the audience noise at this point. It is a fantastic song and performance. Her voice echoes during the loud parts when she is singing the chorus -"Sweet Relgion" over and over again. Great effect. 8. Sleep - she talks about what the song means to her, how its about the first moments when you wake up in the morning. Since this song is a quiet one, the audience noise was very inappropriate at this point... I really felt bad. During the Rufus show Immi did backup vocals on one of his songs, I think its called April Fool, but I am not sure about that. Its a love song, for sure. I could hardly hear her - I don't think she was loud enough, and I think she could have easily overpowered Dufus. It was the first time she performed the song with Rufus - I know when I met with her between the shows, she told me she had never done it before. The staff working there, who I chatted with later, said they saw her in the afternoon during soundchecks practicing it, and she didn't know the lyrics then. They were very impressed by her performance. There was also no spotlight on her during this song, which sucked. So I met Immi in between shows... I actually ran into her in the bathroom, she was fixing her hair, I think. I complimented her on her wonderful outfit and how beautiful she looked (she really was) and she mentioned that it was the first time she'd worn that sort of thing. We talked for a bit about various things (touring, performing, shopping, etc), and then she had to leave to practice the Dufus song. She signed a poster and a CD for me. I told her I was going to her Providence show at Met Cafe the next night, and she took my name down for her guest list. Immi has such wonderful presence. She is 6 feet tall, and looks like a rock star. She had red boots on, which were very cute (I love red, and I love boots). After her bit with Dufus, I saw her again by the Tshirt booth. She was chatting with her other fans. I asked for a picture with her, and since I am only 5'1" I commented on how I was too short for the picture. She was very gracious about it and actually crouched down to come to my height for the picture! What a wonderful experience, despite the bad audience... The Dufus fans were positive about her, though. I heard comments from various audience members saying how good she was and how cute she was. :-) I also noticed that Immi's mailing list got filled up rather quickly and took a page and a half by the time I had left (halfway into Dufus) whereas Dufus had about 3 people on his list. I know I shouldn't be so petty, but I was quite glad for it. I know I couldn't stop gushing when I was talking with her, and I must have made the worst impression, but oh well. :P I kept jumping about and saying how wonderful she was. Overall, I immensely enjoyed the show, though the bad audience greatly detracted from the experience - I just wish they would shush and really listen to her. I know if they did that, they'd have to love her. Or at least come early so they wouldn't interrupt her performance halfway. Immi, again, is absolutely gorgeous and amazing as a performer and artist. She mentioned she was working on a new album, and that would hinder touring. Also, I don't think she will be touring with a band soon because she isn't making tons of money at this point. I talked with some other Immi fans after the show, and it really amazes me that Immi isn't getting more radio play than she is - her songs are really just GREAT, and so much better than a lot of the stuff on the waves now. Her songs are also very accessible, too, and her voice is dark, deep, and distinct. And as a performer, she is stellar too - her presence is really just incredible. I hate to compare, but when I put her next to a lot of the other artists I've seen live, she really does outshine them. Of course, other artists have different qualities, and their music is different, but Immi is just so distinct and noticeable, it's hard to not remember her.
