Hello All! Because I feel compelled to respond to this question... I would have to say that at the moment my favorite from 'I Megaphone' would have to be 'Useless'. Unfortunately, I am a fickle one and favorites change often dependent on moods. Now for the news a few of you have been waiting for... The CD's that people asked for from me are on their way! I sent them out this weekend, cool cover and all! Thanks for the diligent work Mick, in cutting up the covers! For those of you who live near me (Drew ....still male? And Shirley) you should see yours tonight. I hope you guys like what you hear... Take Care! - -K- ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 15 Mar 1999 09:35:06 -0800 (PST) From: Michaela B Subject: RE: [Imogen] favorite song? Hello Again! Some people have been asking about the CD I mentioned... For those of you who are curious, it is a CD of four songs that Imogen recorded in 1994 and 1995. Missing You Rhythm of Life (guest vocals) Aliens If I Were A Butterfly Anyone interested in possibly trading for these songs, please let me know. Thanks! -K- - ---------- From: Converse, Kevin[SMTP:conversk@segasoft.com] Sent: Monday, March 15, 1999 9:04 AM To: wireless@smoe.org Subject: RE: [Imogen] RE: favorite song? Hello All! Thought you'd like to know :) >The iMOGEN songs that I have been listening to the most lately are Not You >Again, Leave Me To Love, and Sweet Religion. > Everyone else: So I saw Immi on Friday night in Boston at the Paradise Cafe and Saturday night in Providence at the Met Cafe. Both nights were awesome, but I must say Met Cafe was mucho better. I don't have the set lists handy, but on the first night the most notable songs were Angry Angel and Leave me to Love. At Met Cafe the most notable songs were I am in Love with you and a song she did not yet have a title for.. probably the song mentioned in one of the reviews Drew forwarded. She played them back to back... it was awesome :) For both nights, the audience was not very good, but ESPECIALLY on Friday night. I swear to god, if I ever hear the name "Tori" at another Immi concert I will slap the mofo in the face. :P The people around me seemed especially eager to compare the two artists, and though I am a huge Tori fan, I don't see the similarities beyond woman with a piano. Immi is far more... rock starish, techno (for want of a better word) It was especially annoying when Immi started playing Sleep and someone said: "oh my God, its Twinkle!" Immi's presence is incredible. As you all know, she is mighty tall. She wore a gold lame outfit the first night, with her hair pinned up like a French Twist. Of course her hair was teased so that added another 6 inches to her already colossal height. She looked like a rock star: red boots :) People were snapping pictures like crazy. She bawled it out during Rake It In, but her hair wouldn'y come out during the song like she planned so she let it out after the song. The audience was incredibly rude (I'm sorry that I keep harping on this but it really got on my nerves) since they were there to see Rufus, but I noticed that they still talked during Rufus as i had stayed a little after. So after the show, I go to the bathroom and I run into Immi!!! We talked for a bit. The audience, the venue, future touring, etc. She told me she was doing a duet with Rufus during his show - Im glad she told me because I was going to leave right afterwards. So I stayed for her duet which ended up being more like back up vocals. I really wish she was louder so she could drown out Rufus's whiny little boy voice... so I had to strain to hear her. The first night wasn't as incredible as the second night mainly because of the audience, and I don't think she was really into it. Providence: Much better. She played on a keyboard instead of a piano and wore brownish pants with a glittery red skirt over it and a baby t. I wore her angry angel shirt and she was very happy to see me in it. :) I was also on her guest list the second night, since we had talked for a while the 1st so she took my name, etc. I was stoked to get in as a guest list :) Immi had me model her shirt during the show - she really was so happy to see me wear it, and I suggest all of you people going to future shows to wear her shirts just to brighten her day, and let her know we are there to see Her not Dufus. I was so embarassed to be on the stage but hey, how could I refuse? She really got into her songs. Let it go during Rake It In. I had advised her on the setlist when she was out at the tables before the show, and she was going to play Getting Scared, but that didn't get played. I think she changes things last minute because the set list of the actual show and the planned setlist was drastically different in order and content (but not as much) She played two rarities, which I thought was awesome and they really were beautiful. I am in Love with You has a "jazzy" beat to it similar to Oh Me Oh My but different. Id have to hear it mroe. The untitled song was very... lyrically complicated. I cant remember the words, nothing "catchy" but still beautful. Immi has these candles near her when she plays, and one of the candles blew out during the show, and an audience member lit it again. I don't know if she noticed that or not, but if she did, I am sure that made her in a better mood during the show. She ended both shows with Sleep and started both with Candlelight. Oh Me Oh My, Come Here Boy, Sweet Religion, Rake It In were songs common to both shows, as well. I dont remember if she played Whatever... Ill post a more detailed set list later, pending time. Sorry for the unstructured reviews of these two shows. :( But Im jetlagged. You know, it seems like a lot of Immi fans will be at the Philly show coming up. I met some other fans that arent on this list, and they all said they'd be at Philly. Also, Immi mentioned that the songs before the Met Cafe show were from her CD collection - that she picked it out :) I was pleased to hear PJ Harvey, Soul Coughing among the songs in the pre-show music. There was also a bunch of rad dance beats/mixes in the Urban Species/Massive Attack genre. (Sorry, I am so bad at labeling music) Thats it. Again sorry for the nebulous nature of this review. :P Shirley Ye Berkeley, California shye@uclink4.berkeley.edu "in a man's world i am a woman by birth and after nineteen times around i have found they will stop at nothing once they know what you are worth talk to me now." - -Ani D., Talk to Me Now ------------------------------ End of wireless-digest V2 #47 *****************************
