Among others listed are Jonatha Brooke, Richie Havens, Shawn Colvin, Indigo Girls, Patti Larkin, Dar Williams and many others. The site also provides links to other alt tuning sites. More to the point, it provides a link to the guitar page at jmdl.com and credits Sue, Howard, Marian and Mark. In fact, the guy is at Cornell so maybe you know him, Sue? (Or maybe that's like people asking me if I know someone just because they live in Toronto - there are only 3-4 million people here!) And for those of us who were wondering where we had got the possible tuning for "Orion In The Sky" (Colvin and Larry Klein, this site says it's CGDGCD (capo 2). This is probably where you and I got this info from to begin with, Kate. I've been mucking around with it and it seems to work, if only I can get past a certain point. (It would probably help if I listened to the song while trying it, instead of relying on my memory.) ===== Catherine Toronto ______________________________________________________________________ Post your free ad now! http://personals.yahoo.ca ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 27 Aug 2003 09:58:25 -0400 From: Susan McNamara Subject: Re: Another alt tuning site Catherine: I did not know of this site or this guy! I just looked him up on the Cornell website and he's a researcher in the Astronomy department that works with NASA! (the astronomy dept at Cornell is the former home of Carl Sagan). OK, that's intimidating, but I guess I should drop him an email and thank him for the kudos on the website. COOL! thanks for finding that site. take care, sue >More to the point, it provides a link to the guitar >page at jmdl.com and credits Sue, Howard, Marian and >Mark. Things can be right in front of my eyes and I still don't see them. After all this time, having printed off John Kean's version of "Orion in the sky", http://johnkean.digitalrice.com/Tabs/OrionInTheSky.txt)I now realize (d'oh!) that all this time, he had indicated it was in Drop D tuning (which I always thought just meant that you dropped the low E-string to a D); and that he has also indicated the fingering for the chords at the bottom of this sheet - but he hasn't got the cute little pictures to go with it, and I didn't notice either of those things All this time, I've been playing it in standard tuning but with a lowered bass string (from E to D) and never even noticed the chords indicated at the end of it. So Kate, or anyone else who might have been trying to figure this one out... I guess you don't need to! ===== Catherine Toronto ______________________________________________________________________ Post your free ad now! http://personals.yahoo.ca ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 27 Aug 2003 22:51:02 -0400 (EDT) From: Catherine McKay Subject: Re: That Shawn Colvin song Double goof. Drop D is just lowering the low E string to D, and the chords the guy gave are standard tuning chords, not alt tuning.
