I've been playing Call it Democracy and Burn, from the All the Diamonds songbook. Maybe the two Bruces could get together on a project... Bill - ----- Original Message ----- From: "Susan McNamara" To: Sent: Friday, February 01, 2002 8:34 AM Subject: good songwriting and the other Bruce This morning i used the 5 cd changer i got for xmas and put 5 of my favorite Bruce Cockburn cds in: Charity of Night (ten stars out of five), the live CD You Pay Your Money and You Take Your Chance (heavy metal Bruce), Joy Will Find A Way, Humans and Stealing Fire. He's a great songwriter, in the league of Joni, and of course a Canadian (what's in the water up there anyway?) I have a couple of songs that I want to try and play if I ever get time to practice. Songs that I just can't live without are Live On My Mind from Charity of Night (a melting love song), Fascist Architecture (what a great title!) and Strange Waters also from Charity of Night. If you don't have this CD yet, I implore you to get it. Soul changing music, but that's just my opinion. Of course Bruce also uses alternate tunings and I really like this site if you want to check it out: http://www.netspace.net.au/~angelb/cockburn/tab/BCTab.html just had to get that out!! sue ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 5 Feb 2002 10:35:49 -0500 From: Susan McNamara Subject: Re: The Bruces >I love the Bruces (both of >them...) I learnt "It Won't be Long" from that album and came back to England. I remember going to a club in Kensington not long after my return and singing it in a floor spot (open mic to you guys). Just before I went on, the compere whispered that Tim Hardin was in the audience. I gulped - and sang my Bruce cover. At the end of the evening, I was beckoned over to his table and he said "Good song - who wrote that? (at least that's what I think he said - he'd had a few). He then asked me if I'd like to "pick up a couple of chicks with him and go back to his place" (I think I just gulped again and politely declined. Well, I was happy in love at the time. If he'd asked me to go back to play some music, mind, I'd have been there like a shot!). >Fascist Architecture (what a great title!) Thanks for posting the tab site. I really like this song too - particularly the original recording (?) on the Humans album. I found this tab (EADF#BE) and Bruce's comments about the symbolism in the song at the site you suggested - http://www.netspace.net.au/~angelb/cockburn/tab/FascistA.html I'd never understood the Italian architecture connection before.
