It's been pretty quiet, so I'll throw this topic up for discussion or rejection- Recently working on Amelia, I played through it a few times trying to stay as close to joni's versions as possible. Then something got into me and I upped the tempo a bit and found myself giving the lyric an angry edge. I was having a lot of fun with it, but started to feel like maybe I shouldn't tinker around with this song which has been pretty much sacred to me. As soon as I stopped playing, a crow landed on a tree branch right outside my window and was staring straight at me and raised quite a fuss. I decided to interpret this as a sign of approval to experiment with the song. Anyway, I am interested in hearing about any arrangements of joni tunes that have strayed from the standard versions. I know Joni loves hearing the creativity of how people interpret her songs and I love it to, especially when you consider people like Brian Thomas who do such a fantastic job of it. I on the other hand I am more inclined to stay as true as my limited abilities allow me, to the one of her versions of the song. I have been having alot of fun with Sex Kills and Offnight Backstreet lately. I don't play them exactly the way she does but I try and the vocals I try to remain true to her phrasing at least. When I first learned Amelia and Hejira, I loved playing them together like on Shadows and Light. When I did Jonifest New Orleans, I got my pal Beth Patterson to interpret Pat's Solo (only played on Bazouki) and it was so much fun. Currently I am working on You Dream Flat Tires for the AsharaFest this summer and I am sort of doing what the bass does on the guitar as well as what the guitar does and I really love playing this one. I am hoping to assemble a greek chorus to help me on this one along with a lead guitar player, Chris Marshall on Bass, and a drummer if we can find one. Best to you all, Paz - ----- Original Message ----- From: "Bill Dollinger" To: Sent: Tuesday, January 29, 2002 8:33 AM Subject: hey folks... > What's up wanderers?
