"The best thing for me was seeing him for a couple of hours and laughing and joking and holding his hand," the former Beatle said in an interview with British Broadcasting Corp. He later realized he had never before held Harrison's hand. "We'd been to school together and got on buses together and we didn't hold each other's hands," McCartney said. "It was like a compensation; he was rubbing his thumb up and down my hand and it was very nice." He said he and former Beatle Ringo Starr had spoken about their loss, "just to touch base and say 'what a bummer.' It's difficult to know what to say." McCartney, who recently released "Driving Rain," his first album of new material in four years, also said he was planning to play live dates with a new band next year. ) 2001 The Associated Press ------------------------------ End of wanderer-digest V1 #46 *****************************
