Jim said, What other person than George Harrison could get away with writing a pop song with the line "Keep me free from birth?" My hubby Joe used to play in those smoky coffeehouses down on Long Island and NYC when we were first together. He actually played Folk City once, too! (which immediately reminds me of the Roches song, Face Down in Folk City...I can relate :-) If Gregg has an email address I will send him an invite to the Wanderer! take care, sue ps don't forget, our diva guitar master suffers from post polio syndrome, that's why alternate tunings are so great for those of us who are not dexterious (is that a word?). ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 3 Dec 2001 12:10:22 EST From: RoseMJoy@aol.com Subject: Re: Gregg Cagno's folk gig In a message dated 12/3/01 11:02:47 AM Eastern Standard Time, sem8@cornell.edu writes: > don't forget, our diva guitar master suffers from post polio > syndrome, that's why alternate tunings are so great for those of us > who are not dexterious (is that a word?). > Yes I'm aware of that which is why I can relate. The word is dexterous. I only know because I looked it up in the dictionary. lol A lot of people don't understand what PPS is. I've done some research and here's a short explaination: What is Post-Polio Syndrome? Post-Polio Syndrome (PPS) is a condition that can strike polio survivors anywhere from 10 to 40 years after their recovery from polio. PPS is caused by the death of individual nerve terminals in the motor units that remain after the initial polio attack. Symptoms include fatigue, slowly progressive muscle weakness, muscle and joint pain, and muscular atrophy. The severity of PPS depends upon how seriously the survivors were affected by the first polio attack. Doctors estimate the incidence of PPS at about 25 percent of the survivor population. The only way to be sure a person has PPS is through a neurological examination aided by other laboratory studies (for example, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), neuroimaging, electrophysiological studies, and muscle biopsies or spinal fluid analysis). I'm a little more fortunate than Joni in that mine doesn't progressively get worse, and if you work at it real hard, there can be even some improvement. I had some scarring at the left C6-7 nerve root caused by a herniated disc, which resulted in some weakness and muscular atrophy in the arm and hand. Thank goodness for the skills of these neurosurgeons. They were able to go in through the back of the neck and remove the herniated portion of the disc. Some pretty scary surgery though, but we came through :0) One of Gregg's email addys is greggno@pobox.com. You'll have to check out his webpage www.greggcagno.com You've got to listen to his "Ode to Mrs. Claus" Joy, a Christmas song where Mrs. Claus seduces Santa into delaying x-mas on more night... He played it Saturday night for us. It's hysterical.
