I always felt frustrated trying to play it with the above tuning, because it didn't give me the high F (which, if it is a 12-string, would be the octave of third string) that I hear in the recording. So now I tune as follows : AEBEG#E (A77548) - capo 1 You can start on Bb, but this puts the E up to an F, which might break your top string. Would be interested to hear what you think about this! Marian, your new tuning for Otis & Marlena looks promising, but my question is - how do you get the low A? I have not been able to get a decent tone on that string below a C. This tuning is absolutely no problem at all with the VG-8, using Bb as the starting poing (i.e., no capo). For my acoustic, I guess I'm just not hard to please, or maybe I'm hard of hearing! I only really don't like the tone when I go below about Ab. You really need to hear that high A in the intro and the tuning in the archive doesn't get it. I think this is one of Joni's songs where she did use a 12-string and tuned each string differently, so 12 different notes as the open strum. This tuning reminds me a lot of the Beatles' "In My Life." Mark ------------------------------ End of wanderer-digest V1 #31 *****************************
