My latest song took me to a new tuning (for me) A E C# F# B C# Just barely do-able for my 1990 Taylor K-22 with Daddario phosphor bronze mediums. (the low A is way low). The open tuning expresses the seventh below the tonic, you get the tonic by playing the second fret on the lower three strings. Then it's a B major chord with Joni-like voicing. (Is that right?) As you go exploring you'll find some other beauties. Looking forward to some more weirdo tunings here. Enjoy. Using your tuning you alternate all open then all open with the last 2 strings fretted on the 2nd fret. I checked it out and it's nothing like Cockburn uses. Just sounds similar. If you would like to see some of his tunings try here. http://www.netspace.net.au/~angelb/cockburn/tab/BCTab.html Patti Witten wrote: > Hello there, > > Patti here. Can I hook it up to my beat up ovation? (Actually I've been eyeing a blue fender at our local guitar shop!). I would certainly have to say "YES, please!" Ok, from Michael, Patron Saint of VG-8s, to John Kelly (the beauty in a blonde wig), to the humble Sue, who will probably still not be able to get out of peoples parties tuning even with the equipment. :-) >Here here Sue. It's the Joni Guitar players list. Yay! Toot-toot! THANKS for signing on, Patti! I'm going to go get my music thesaurus and then respond to your new tuning! (don't you wish there was such a thing as a music thesaurus--I do. :-) i'm hopelessly theory-challenged. I'm especially intrigued by what ken said about Bruce Cockburn. He's my other passion. I wish that guy would come to Ithaca again. sigh. I had the extreme pleasure of seeing Patti with Prairie Doll at the famous Rongovian Embassy on 9/28 and it was wooonnnddderrfull! I heartily recommend the Prairie Doll CD--a number of really great songs. I've got Wild One stuck in my head right now. :-) I also have to complement Patti on the seamless way she changed tunings during the performance. Joni would have been proud! sans vg8! Very nice graphite guitar. Is that the Taylor? take care, sue - -- "Heart and humor and humility will lighten up your heavy load ...
