[Love + Light ] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Sun, 7 Nov 2004 20:53:45 -0800 From: Love + Light Subject: Kristy in Concert! The Railway Club (Vancouver, Canada) on November 5, 2004 Line-up: Yvette, Kristy Thirsk, Tom Hooper Got to the venue at about 7:41 pm and the band had not even arrived yet...the stage was empty until Kristy's band brought their equipment at about 8:00 pm. Kristy's web site did say "20:00" so I assume that was the start time. Silly me, eh? ~ 8:45 pm: Kristy does sound check by playing a tune or two. She was wearing in this lovely full length black coat with white fur (real?) on the front collar. Yvette also does sound check after Kristy and company had finished. 10:30 pm: Yvette appears on stage with just her guitar. She used to be be part of the musical duo "Yvette & Adam" but I think they have broken up the act. Adam was in the audience. The blond Yvette looked like kinda like Sideshow Bob (from the Simpsons) with her hair braided (or just stuck together) and then tied on the top of her head with braided hair hanging down. She was okay. 11:53 pm: After waiting more than 4 hours at the club, Kristy and her 4 member band finally hit the stage! Was she worth the wait? You betcha!! She was in her usual "glam-to-the-max" look that I love.... A few strands of her hair were tied in the back but it was mostly free to fly through the air. She had a pink rose (mostly likely an artificial one) tied to her adam's apple. She wore a spaghetti strapped neon pink vinyl/rubber sleeveless top with a long sleeved black fishnet garmet over it. On her left wrist she had some pink and white striped fabric wrapped around it. A black shiny semi-transparent (in the spotlight - her privates were covered) skirt that had a hemline just above her knees and long black velvet boots with red ribbon laces that tied in the back, completed the outfit. No, it wasn't a PG-rated Bratney Spears/Christina Aguilera look...she looked sexy and seductive without being slutty. She sure knows how to dress and flaunt it and never fails to disappoint her fans visually and of course, vocally, too. She did a great show that may be a bit more of a rock 'n' roll sound than on her album. She always rocks out any venue she plays at in her usual fine vocal form. Loved that she played a couple of Rose Chronicles songs but I never get tired of hearing tunes from "Souvenir". Official set list (from the one Kristy was using): Over It If Only At The Border (Song appeared on the TV show JAG that same night!) Indifference Run Away Voice In Jail (Rose Chronicles song) Take You On ("I can only hit that note 50% of the time." She got it this time.) Second Fiddle Hypnotized Policy Of Truth (1980's cover tune - I've never heard of it before.) Awaiting Eternity (Rose Chronicles song) Imagination (May have changed the music arrangement slightly or was it another song?) Truth Fantasy Duration: ~ 1:05:00 Tom Hooper... After waiting so long for Kristy's set to start I was tired so I left before Tom came on. Next Kristy show: The Cellar (Vancouver, Canada) on November 12, 2004! This show is part of New Music West - an annual music showcase that has risen from the dead...I think that had $$$ problems...they were gonna revive it in Calgary in conjunction with another music event but I'm glad they decided against it. It's usually in May but better late than never. - - Acquizeta ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 8 Nov 2004 08:27:47 -0700 From: "Lawrence" Subject: Re: Kristy in Concert! Awesome review. Only I have this feeling, could be jealousy, which brings me back to reality and lets me know that I wasn't there. :):):) Thanks for going into so much detail, that's great! Man, I'd love to hear any of those songs live, but at this moment I'd kill to hear Voice in Jail! Man, you're so lucky!! :):) I've been to the Railway Club as well (went to Vancouver for a week a couple of years ago) and it's TINY! It must be awesome to see her there! I assume it was the cover charge but I didn't see anyone guarding the door asking me to cough up the $s so I just walked in without paying. Maybe it was because I was there too early, perhaps? > Thanks for going into so much detail, that's great! Anyone wanna start a fund raiser to help buy me a MD recorder? lol! > I've been to the Railway Club as well (went to Vancouver for a week a couple > of years ago) and it's TINY! It must be awesome to see her there! It probably hasn't change much since you were last there. The venue is kinda like a railway car with it being so narrow and you can only see the stage on one side of the venue since the bar is right in the middle separating it into two areas. > Thanks for sharing, That's the least I can do since I seem to be the only one on this list that lives in the same area as Kristy. Just wondering... Is Kristy Thirsk on this list? - - Acquizeta ------------------------------ End of vicious-thorn-digest V8 #35 **********************************
