Of those who have listened to the cd, what do you think? I'm so pleased with it. I think it's awesome! This sounds stupid, but it's so Kristy! All the things you love about her voice and her music are still there. You know when you're waiting for something for so long and you're just desperate to hear it, but then you have that slight panic that maybe she's decided that this'll be a dance album or something? :) Or is that just me? ;) Anyway, just wanted to say that I love it. And finally we can now listen to a great copy of Hollywood. I'm glad she decided to record it. My favourite track at the moment is Indifference, but it's changing constantly at the moment. Sorry, I'm excited, needed to spill. :) jus ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 25 Sep 2003 08:56:10 -0400 From: "Nogueira, John" Subject: Review: Delerium in Toronto I've attached a pretty funny review of Delerium's recent show in Toronto. Enjoy! Music notwithstanding, the visual stimuli tonight bought into that theory. The microphone stands were draped with flowing white scarves that swept the stage floor. Behind the drums sat a huge computer-operated screen portraying images of fire, sky, dancing women, ocean waves, geometric shapes, deserts, butterflies, mountain tops, and of course, doves in flight. The lighting design focussed exclusively on pastels. Even the crowd smelled of patchouli and decorated their chakra points. But what can I say, their music always gets to me. If I close my eyes and tune out all of the stereotypes, I fall victim every time. The Guvernment, usually a dance club, seemed the perfect choice for a performance you couldn't help dancing to. Using Spanish guitars, tribal flutes, zylls, ouds, sitars, tamboras, and other eclectic instruments, Delerium explored different sounds, sometimes at odds, sometimes in harmony, but always inventive. Exotic, daring, vulnerable, brilliant and quirky, their energized performance was like an event of spiritual and sacred rebellion we were all invited to participate in. Performing new songs like "After All" off their latest effort, Chimera, and tried-and-true hits like "Silence" (Sarah McLachlan has promoted Chimera on her website. Aww.) and "Innocente," the band focussed on evoking a power-of-women atmosphere, with belly-dancing-inspired movements, wild hair crawling down the ladies' backs and consistently solid and seductive voices. And while the crowd always gave credit where credit was due, they still were languishing in dance-mode: lovely ganja-smoking ladies gyrating their hips around the floor in ritualistic mating dances that knocked the beers right out of the gent's fingers. Hell, even the guys working the soundboard couldn't contain themselves, bopping to the beat. Although a little on the pop-rock side, the music tonight always came down to the bass and the drum, bringing the tribal beat back to the throbbing tribal hearts of the crowd. Indeed, with their unrestrained emotions and appetites Delerium flawlessly transferred from disc to performance, executing the formula for releasing primal howls in any skeptic, myself included. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 25 Sep 2003 16:08:23 EDT From: LidiaEliz@aol.com Subject: Re: ok, now the cd I really like the CD a lot also. At first it was kind of shocking to hear the different musical style.. while the music on the CD is pretty similar to all the solo material we've heard from Kristy since the 90s, I was still in Delerium/Rose Chronicles mode when I first heard it, and it seemed strange to hear her on a full album in the style of her solo music. After a couple listens it really grew on me. Her singing is beautiful, and the songs are enjoyable. The production is also really nice, with the great vocal layering I've come to expect from Kristy recordings. For anyone who hasn't checked the liner notes, Kristy wrote all of the songs herself except for co-writing "Run Away," "Indifference," "If Only," and "Home for Angels." At this moment my favorite songs are "Imagination," "Indifference," and "Whitelight." And on this CD is yet another rendition of "Second Fiddle." :D That song has been through a lot, and I'm glad we've had the opportunity to hear the songs that didn't make it onto the album, like Truth Fantasy, Underground, Something Spilt, Giant Pedestal, and Over It.
