I was on my way to see Delerium yesterday and my car broke down as I was leaving for the freeway. Argh!... I couldn't get a ride anywhere, it just plain sucked. Who went to the Los Angeles concert? Could you tell me how it went?? =) Peace, ~ Daunus ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 09 Sep 2003 13:33:00 -0400 From: MadCadmium@aol.com Subject: Delerium in Los Angeles i was at the delerium show in l.a. last night. i can not believe how tight they were live. absoutely the best concert i've ever been to, and i've been to tons. conjure was excellent as well, but pretty short, they did something like six or seven songs. chemda pulled off the voices of poe & sinead oconner very well, and sang "sleep" in her own style which was not a disapointment at all. delerium played only their nettwerk songs, lots of chimera, some poem and some semantic spaces. i do believe i heard two from karma, they did that "forgotten worlds" song with the lisa gerrard samples, but with kristy & shelley on vocals. that right there was amazing. they freaken played that song with live instruments, on stage, before my very eyes. what is weird though is that "returning" was not performed. strange. so if you are a delerium fan, you have to go see them. i myself am going to san diego to see them again, and i'm just as excited to see them tonight as i was last night. did you hear that daunus (the person with the broke down car), you can see them tonight in san diego. get that car of yours fixed bro. later people chad. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 9 Sep 2003 13:43:26 -0400 From: "Nogueira, John" Subject: [Vicious Thorn] "Delerium finally showing their faces" I've tried posting the following story twice to the list with no success. Looks like our techies installed spam software on our server that won't let me see my own posts to the list. A quick check at smoe.org tells me that they were indeed getting through. Here's a recent excerpt of an interview with Bill Leeb talking about KT from http://www.nsnews.com/issues03/w082403/084303/artent/084303ae1.html [attach] Leeb's made four albums with Delerium and has introduced new vocalists with each release but one singer has been with him from the beginning - Vancouver's Kristy Thirsk. He credits her involvement with helping him to realize the potential of Delerium. Her track Flowers Become Screens off the 1994 album Semantic Spaces gave the band its first success. "It was just so liberating to have somebody come in with a really beautiful voice, sing your music, and within three weeks we're in heavy rotation on MuchMusic, Z's playing us every half hour. We'd never experienced that. When you're dealing with that darker, underground music you're pretty limited as to where and how. This was just like opening the window one day and this fresh air came in. I think we grew leaps and bounds just from that one experience. We've never looked back." Subject: tell me how the los angeles show_ besides bill and rhys, they had someone playing drums and bass, so it was great to have a full band. johnny, kristy's guitarist etc., was running setup and tech for them. i was really just going to see kristy sing, but was reminded how much i liked all of delerium, since semantic spaces was my first cd and i tend to not separate the two. unless it is the sarah mclachlan song ;) i was hopeing to hear returning, enchanted, wisdom, or especially 'til the end of time, but none of them were performed. shelley harland was a great singer and complimented kristy really well - especially since talking to her after the show i realized she has an english accent. shelly told me she sang a song for delerium called 'above' that was available through a special download when the chimera was bought online. does anyone have this?? i don't have poem and have really only listened to returning from chimera (kristy pronounced it like shim-era), but here are some more of the songs they sang.. love. after all. twilight. silence. forgotten worlds. lamentation? resurrection. flatlands? the band left, but when you see the pause symbol on the dvd they were playing on the elevated screen, it kind of gave it away that they would be back. [the dvd had some moving video, some still images. lots of overlapping and transforming geometrical images. the video for flowers becomes screens was played while they sang.] then the band came back.. flowers become screens - the vocals tended toward more of the acoustic version kristy recorded, which floated through the list awhile ago. run for it. since i bought conjure one at the show, i got a pass to wait around for the band to come out and sign autographs. and regarding the post about kristy's ring, well fellas, i'm sorry to announce that kristy thirsk is happily engaged. congratulations kristy!!! christophere [syn] eater ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||| in america, people don't have conversations, they exchange autobiographies. what passes for talk is two simultaneous monologues. ::joe innis ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 09 Sep 2003 20:34:28 -0700 From: "Mindy G" Subject: Re: tell me how I thought that tech looked like Johnny, but I just wasn't sure! :) Congratulations Kristy! ~Mindy~ _________________________________________________________________ Express yourself with MSN Messenger 6.0 -- download now! http://www.msnmessenger-download.com/tracking/reach_general ------------------------------ End of vicious-thorn-digest V7 #59 **********************************
