Music VANCOUVER -- Before Lisa Marie Presley nabbed him but after Tori Amos did, Vancouver's Kristy Thirsk began working with producer Eric Rosse in Los Angeles on what would become her solo debut. The some-time singer with electronic project Delerium will release the album independently if a deal with a record label has not been signed by the time she hits the road with Delerium this fall, says her California-based manager Cheryl Hall. Thirsk, whose former band the Rose Chronicles won a Juno Award for best alternative album in 1995, left Nettwerk Records several years ago and found a Canadian investor "who was going to give us a lot of money" says Thirsk. "We were pretty serious about it and we were getting contracts (drawn up). He wanted us to get a really reputable producer with a track record." Hall contacted Lippman Entertainment, which represents music producers, and sent some demos of Thirsk's material to see who would respond. "Erik really loved what he heard and I was a fan of Eric's because I was a fan of Tori Amos, so we started working together," says Thirsk. "I wrote a couple of songs with him at his home studio and then we were booking studio time, and suddenly we couldn't find the investor. He disappeared. I even went to his office and they said he wasn't there." When Thirsk told Rosse what had transpired, he still wanted to work with her, so she got a loan and used her royalty payments to pay him in installments, she says. Tentatively titled Souvenir, the adult-pop album was recorded during downtime from Rosse's work on Presley's debut, To Whom It May Concern. "I had him first," Thirsk jokes. "I was actually scheduled to work with him and then Lisa Marie came in the picture and I had to pull her pony tail." The album was mixed by Rosse in May and Hall has been shopping it to various labels. "There is some pretty significant interest, but I learned too many times that you can wait around," says Thirsk. "You're much better to keep the ball rolling. Even if you're negotiating a deal, it can take three to six months." ------------------------------ End of vicious-thorn-digest V7 #47 **********************************
