It came to my mind that I haven't even introduced myself to the list, although I've been subscribing it for a while now.. OK, so I'm Jon , student, 23, and living in Helsinki. Yes, Helsinki, Finland, as in not ever going to be able to see Kristy perform, Helsinki, Finland. I've been listening to Rose Chronicles (not that much Delerium, but I have those two albums too) for over five years now. Although each one from "Dead and gone to heaven" till "Happily ever after" is a recording worth listening to once every day, I'm eager to get my hands on anything new from Kristy. To me, as a singer-songwriter she is way up there with Courtney Love and Liz Phair. But you couldn't really compare her to anyone, with her being even more unique and exquisite, like, well, like Liz Fraser - but then again that's already a comparison, isn't it?.. Rose Chronicles/Kristy Thirsk just might be the most loved music for me, but I do listen to a whole lot of other music too, lately having been listening mostly to israeli psytrance and Mediaeval Baebes along with the necessary dose of (british) triphop/breakbeats per day, like Lamb, Massive Attack, Orbital, Sneaker Pimps and the sort. Oh yeah, and of course not forgetting Cure, NIN, Juliana Hatfield, Smashing Pumpkins, Liz Phair and (naturally) Cocteau Twins. Neil Finn/Crowded House is a classic and so is Depeche Mode, and recently I found out about Mazzy Star ..which was nice. There is something David Lynch-like in Mazzy Star, which brings me to one of my other interests, the cinema that is. David Lynch and David Cronenberg (another canuck!) are important for me among a dozen others, and Godard is God. I hope you all could also find out about Guy Maddin - even another contemporary canadian filmmaker, whose brilliant indie films "Tales from Gimli hospital", "Careful" and "Twilight of the Ice Nymphs" I got to see in the annual Helsinki International Film Festival ( http://www.hiff.fi ) two years ago. So that's the basics, and now comes the real essence of the message, which is that I just wanted to declare my great aspiration to some day see Kristy live in concert, which I too have actually even dreamed of. As a third year student, I'm not really abundant on the dinero, but I plan on getting to Vancouver ASAP, in a year or so, depending of course on other travel plans I have. I've seen enough of Central Europe already and Asia would suit my wallet better. So I wish to get any kind of info on nice places to stay(affordable), clubs, or any kind of interesting local stuff that could otherwise be difficult to find for a total newcomer stranger. (Tips on how to spot Kristy in the town etc.(I'm not serious on this one)) And please don't give me some lonelyplanet.com-links unless you totally think everything interesting can really be found in the Book. I appreciate all response. Rock on. Bye. P.S. I heard Rose Chronicles' Awaiting Eternity (still my favourite one) for the first time on MTV's "120 minutes" over seven years ago. First I lost it completely after hearing it once and then after two years found it accidentally on some old videocassette. I couldn't believe my luck at the time! I soon ordered the album straight from Canada because it was the only way to get it. RC/Kristy is not at all known over here in Finland, but many of my friends (mostly girls..?) have grown to love it/her if not fallen in love already at the first listen. Bye. Just don't do what I did. I went when Kristy wasn't playing. :) Will definitely go again though, but next time I'll try to plan it better to coincide with a gig. But it is a great city worth visiting anyway. Justine > Hello you people! > > It came to my mind that I haven't even introduced myself to the list, although I've been subscribing it for a while now..
