I'll be covering the BreastFest '99 show for an online magazine. I was at her previous Los Angeles show at the El Rey Theatre and while I was impressed with her overall performance, her music could really benefit with arrangements that balance her striking vocals (possibly more ambient synth). Kristy is also opening for Sally Taylor (daughter of Carly Simon and James Taylor) on 10/20 @ the Troubadour in Los Angeles. Last time Sally played the Troubadour, Carly and brother Ben joined her for a song so there's a media buzz on this show (LA Times and some other rags will be covering it) which means hopefully Kristy will get some local press action. I noticed the Kristy Thirsk site already has the other October LA dates so you can check the site for those too. Obviously she's in town for showcases to get label interest so if you're in the area or know someone who is be sure to spread the word so A&R brats are aware of her underground following. Since those clubs are pretty busy on most nights and she has a primetime slot, she should have a good crowd. I'm particularly pleased to see she's playing the Garage's Cadillac Club. I think she'll like that scene. Someone should tell her management to try and book the Viper Room for a possible showcase. The place reeks of A&R odor on a daily basis. Sixpence None the Richer showcased for Columbia Records there to get on the "She's All That" soundtrack and you know the rest. At least 10 bands have been signed out of that club in the last year. In any case, I hope we can get Kristy out of demoville so she can start a full-length. Also, what's so bad about The Creatures? It's the first I've heard anybody put down Siouxsie and Budgie -- though they are an acquired taste. ___________________________________________________________________ Get the Internet just the way you want it. I don't particularly have a problem with them. My comment was in reference to the fact that the money I spent to get into the show would be for me to see Kristy not The Creatures. cyn ------------------------------ End of vicious-thorn-digest V3 #93 **********************************
