I live in San Francisco but unfortunately I was unable to make it to her show here on the 14th and so had no choice but to drive up to Sacramento on Thursday. I mean how could I pass up the opportunity to see her live? Anyway, on with the review: The show was held in a bar / small stage venue called "The Press Club", in a quiet neighborhood in Sacramento. When my friend and I arrived, Kristy and her band were unloading some their gear from their van out in front of the club. I have to admit that when I first set eyes on her, in that moment my heart missed a beat or two. There was a band playing when I arrived, but they were just finishing their set. Kristy and her group was the second of three bands (unless there was a band before the first one that I saw). At first I was disappointed in the venue, because it was very small and there weren't a whole lot of people there, maybe around thirty or so. Then I realized that I would be able to sit just a few feet from the stage and enjoy her set in a more relaxed environment and that made up for any initial disappointment that I may have felt. Kristy's set was about an hour and almost all of it was new material. She did play one Rose Chronicles song, "Voice in Jail" from the last album "Happily Ever After". Unfortunately there were no Delerium songs (since there was no keyboard player), and I don't believe that there were any songs from her upcoming electronica side project called Balligomingo (though I can't be sure as I haven't heard it yet). I really enjoyed the set and can't wait to get my hands on her new solo EP, as I'm sure all of her fans feel the same way. After Kristy was done playing I had a chance to speak with her and that was a bit of a thrill I have to admit. She is very sweet and took the time talk to her fans. I asked her about her new EP and her record label situation. She told me that she has not signed with a label yet but is currently showcasing and hopes to sign soon. She will then put out her new material on CD. When asked about future plans with Delerium, she said that she would probably work with them again but in a much diminished capacity. Other than that she will do more shows in LA, to showcase, and may (she could not confirm it) do another show in San Francisco in the near future. I then bought my T-shirt (had to have one) and left the club floating on air. Final Thoughts: When you first see someone live, I find that I leave feeling either more impressed than ever, or disappointed by the real thing. Kristy Thirsk left me wanting more. I was blown away by her voice, her music and presence, even in such a small and unremarkable venue as was presented in Sacramento. Her voice is intoxicating, her charm is undeniable and her beauty is unquestionable. I hope that the new label that she signs with allows her the continued freedom to express herself in the remarkable way that I've come to revere. Kristy is one of a kind and stands out above the crowd in a musical world full of generic mediocrity.
