Let me unload my complaints first - the club sucked, the people who worked at the club are stupid, and I had to spend way too many hours there waiting to hear Kristy. The tickets said 8:00, the newspaper said 8:00, the radio said 8:00. We get there at 8:00 and the guy inside says 9:00. So we ask him when Kristy will be going on, and he says that she's up third (of four bands) so probably about 11:00 or 11:30. We leave, we come back at 9:00, there is still a small line of people outside, we wait until about 9:20, doors still not open... we leave. We go back at 10:00 and finally there is a band playing. The first band didn't really do anything for me. The second band totally sucked. The third band(which was not Kristy like we were told) had some cool music, but I couldn't understand a word the guy was singing. Same with the other two bands. My friends both left sometime during the third band because it was getting so late and they were both really tired. So I was unable to make any Kristy converts, since they couldn't stick around to see her. I, of course, wasn't going anywhere until I saw Kristy! Ok, now for the good stuff... Kristy finally takes the stage right about 1am. Ahhh! There's that voice I love so much... She sings two new songs. Except for two of them, all of the songs were new (or new to me anyway! :) I enjoyed every single one of them, and they make me SO eager for a new recording. There was this one... I can't tell you how it goes except it had a lot of "Yes Yes Yes" (or Yeah Yeah Yeah something like that) and I think she said "I'm gonna be all right" after that, but I'm not positive. Anyway, I'll know it again instantly when I hear it again and I was *loving* that song!! So she starts off with two new songs, then I hear her say "This song is for Mindy, if she's here tonight" Did I hear that right? Did she just dedicate a song for me? That takes a second to register (and I'm still not positive about it... ) then I yell out "Thank you!" It probably sounded really stupid... She then proceeds to sing the most astonishingly beautiful rendition of "Hollywood". I've always thought that it is a truly beautiful song, but her singing of it live was just incredible. I was almost in tears. Next- "This is a Rose Chronicles song" and she jumps into Voice in Jail. It sounded great! Until the mic went out, and right before my favorite part too! (I have to scream with my eyes that I'm scared...) The mic was out for the entire rest of the song, I don't think she knew until afterwards. She said "Did you hear any vocals on that? ... Well that was the instrumental version, someday you'll get the vocal version... " And then she finished out the set with all new songs, playing for a total of just under an hour. She didn't close with "Wisdom" like she did in Seattle, in fact she didn't play any of the Delerium songs at all (unless it was one that I don't know, but I doubt it since there was no keyboardist). So that was a little disappointing, since I was really looking forward to hearing that, but since the entire set was fantastic, I'll get over it! :) So then I head out to the lobby, buy myself a little black "Kristy Thirsk" t-shirt and head on home... with Kristy singing from the car CD player, of course... ~Mindy~ ICQ# 45280054 ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 21 Aug 1999 12:08:43 -0700 From: "Mindy" Subject: Songbird Hi fellow Kristy fans! Ok, if I need to work on my Kristy collection, which I do, and I decide to get a CD with Songbird on it, which would you recommend? Is it the same version on both the Lit From Within CD and the Slowbrew CD? What about the rest of the CD, which one do you like overall the best, if anyone has both? Oh! And what about Heart of Glass?? How can I get that?? I would love that! Is it really only available at Mystery Machine concerts? And speaking of covers, just curious if anyone has any songs that they would like to see Kristy cover... I was listening to Bonnie Tyler's Total Eclipse of the Heart the other day, and I thought Kristy could do something really amazing with that... well, as always, of course... :) ~Mindy~ ICQ# 45280054 ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 21 Aug 1999 12:40:18 -0700 From: omicron Subject: Re: Songbird Hi Mindy. Nettwerk no longer lists HoG as an available selection. Also, Mystery Machine just broke up. In the light of this, I wish to put up an MP3 of my copy of the vinyl single to Vox (maybe even with that little static sound of the turntable needle going down for added charm). What do you other listees think? > And speaking of covers, just curious if anyone has any songs that they would > like to see Kristy cover... I've heard Kristy w/band cover Ziggy Stardust live. It sounded really great. Not really an answer to your question, though... > I was listening to Bonnie Tyler's Total Eclipse > of the Heart the other day, and I thought Kristy could do something really > amazing with that... well, as always, of course... :) It would have to be good, since I don't think she could make that song sound any worse than it already does. (Sorry. Bad memories of the 80's) Incidentally, thanks for the review of the Portland show, although it was a shame that it went the way it did. BTW, everyone should visit Vox in the next few days as I'll be posting more concert pics soon (from the El Ray) as well as US tour log entries by Bill Arab... I take it you never heard to dance version someone put out a few years ago? :) That thing sucked. > (Sorry. Bad memories of the 80's) Hey, we all like and dislike stuff for whatever reason... First time I ever heard Total Eclipse it was like 3 in the morning, the song crept into a nightmare I was having, eventually woke me up in the middle of it, and I was completely freaked out. So it just always does something to me... > Incidentally, thanks for the review of the Portland show, although it > was a shame that it went the way it did. Ah, but it was still all worth it! Maybe I didn't make that clear enough... > BTW, everyone should visit Vox in the next few days as I'll be posting > more concert pics soon (from the El Ray) as well as US tour log entries > by Bill Arab...
