I've decided to come out of the darkness and into the light! I've been a fan of Kristy Thirsk and the Rose Chronicles since 1993 or 1994. I first "discovered" them when I saw them on a local entertainment show in Vancouver, BC. (That's where I live.) They were interviewed about their NEW group and their upcoming show at the Vancouver East Cultural Center. They also played some of their music on the show and I liked what I heard so since tickets to their show were relatively inexpensive, I decided to "take a chance" with them and see them live. I was not disappointed! Kristy Thirsk came out in this beautiful white lace dress and she looked incredible!! I was so momentarily mesmerized by Kristy that I did not even notice the carnations (not roses) that she threw into the audience down the middle aisle. A friend sitting next to me brought me back to reality when he told me to go pick them up. (To this day I still have that carnation which I put between the pages of a thick book.) The show was incredible with Kristy doing her usual "vocal acrobatics". Since that show I've seen them about 4 more times before they broke up. I still have 4 of the bands' CDs - "Dead And Gone To Heaven" -EP (1993), "Glide (Free Above)" - single (1994), "Shivers" (1993), & "Happily Ever After" (1996). I was lucky enough to get Kristy to autograph "Shivers" when the band did a free live performance at Simon Fraser University (just outside Vancouver). Is there anyone going to Kristy's show tonight at the Railway Club in Vancouver, BC? I, unfortunately, can not go since I have to work! Gotta go to work now, so bye! - -Starman Vancouver, BC CANADA ========================================================= "PeelMeAGrape" - The Diana Krall E-Mail Discussion List To subscribe send a subscribe message to: PeelMeAGrape-subscribe@onelist.com ========================================================= - ------------------------------------------------- Get personalized e-mail and a web address or your own free e-mail at http://www.networksolutions.com. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 29 Jul 1999 15:13:42 MDT From: "Loraleigh Bowyer" Subject: stupid questions? hi, my name is loraleigh, and i'm new to this list. could anyone tell me if kristy has put out a new album yet, and if she hasn't, when it's due? i haven't run across this info yet (though i haven't necessarily done my homework either). is she only touring in the us and bc? does anyone know if there are any upcoming alberta dates? thanks. ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 29 Jul 1999 15:55:48 -0700 From: omicron Subject: Kristy live reviews Hello all - Anyone frequenting my Vox site is well aware of my constant clamouring for reviews of Kristy's live shows. However, the only ones I've received have been through the VT list. What follows are the Kristy / RC show reviews I've gotten thus far. With permission from the respective posters, I'd like to add the reviews (as wholes or in part, edited or untouched) to Vox. Many thanks in advance... - ---------------------------------------------------------------------- From: Steve I (In-The-Wings List) - Lawrence, if you could contact him for me? Lawrence wanted to know if anyone saw Kristy at NXNE. I did! I'm not a big Rose Chronicles fan but I do love her voice so I was pretty excited to see her show. Her voice seems even more incredible when you hear it live, she's like Tara that way. I enjoyed her songs a lot, they seemed similar in style to RC songs although a few of them seemed to have a harder edge to them. She's quite beautiful too. And she was wearing this wee little summer dress/skirt thing and my friend Rachel said when Kristy turned around and bent over a bit bringing her guitar close to the amp to get feedback, Rachel thought Kristy was going to moon us. :-) - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- From: Kirk Jacklin Subject: Re: NXNE Sorry for the wait... Firstly, it was a VERY good show, and i am definitely anxiously awaiting any release from them. As for the show they probably played about 9 songs, varying from Songbird-type ballads to some pretty hard rock-y stuff (not sure how to be more descriptive). Kristy's singing is fairly aggressive like on the last RC album, but without the screeching parts (which i'm happy about). Overall, the sound is very similar to Rose Chronicles. Jonnie(?) the guitar player uses lots of effects as did Richard Miranda, but he uses his much more subtly. Some of the ballads reminded me a lot of The Moon Seven Times, well.... with Kristy singing. The drums are a little more subdued than in RC, and the bass is still quite present (sorry, not very descriptive). Kristy spent a good portion of the show trying to keep her guitar in tune (she complained that her guitar was used to Vancouver weather). Ultimately, the show was too short, but then again, they probably don't have too many other songs finished. ... and yes, Kristy is still beautiful, and looked adorable in her white/pink tooth-fairy-like dress, and knee high platform combat boots. She's still got it folks, and if we're all lucky, they'll put something out, and tour!! That's all i can remember at the moment... any questions? Kirk. - ----------------------------------------------------------------------- - -Starman I've been a fan of Kristy Thirsk and the Rose Chronicles since 1993 or 1994.
