My name is Chris (pay no attention to the user name) and I've just finished grade 12, so I've still got one more year of high school. I live in North Bay, Ontario, which is about four hours north of Toronto. Around the time I was in grade 7 I first heard "Awaiting Eternity" and "Flowers Become Screens" and was completely enthralled with them. When I found out both were sung by the same person I was hooked forever. My other musical interests aren't very broad . . . I like the Cure, especially Seventeen Seconds/Faith/Pornography-era Cure, for anyone familiar with their music. I like Helium a little, and I think Holly McNarland's first album Sour Pie is great. Radiohead's good, and Bjork is too, sometimes. I'm looking forward to reading more of these "Personals." Chris. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 29 Jun 1999 20:44:07 -0700 From: "Mindy Getch" Subject: Re: The VT "Personals" omicron wrote... > Hello! Hi omicron! It is fun to see what other interests people have when you know that a common interest is already shared. [snip] > Anyone else? I'll bite... I am Mindy, almost 28 year old SWF from Portland Oregon. How did I get so old and what happened to all the fun I was supposed to have? :) I'm here because I loved this song called "Silence" that I kept hearing on the radio. They said it was Sarah McLachlan singing for Delerium whom I had never heard of before and I just had to check them out. After reading several fantastic reviews of the CD I decided to buy it, and I was blown away. After about two months listening to it, I decided I needed more of that voice I kept hearing, this Kristy Thirsk, so the insert said. A little online digging and next thing I know Happily Ever After is on my doorstep and life will never be the same again. 3 more RC cds and now I anxiously await Kristy solo. My other musical obsession is Chris Isaak. He writes the most beautiful songs that for me speak such truth about love and heartbreak. And his voice is incredible and capable of moving me to tears at times. My other non-musical obsessions - Twin Peaks, Bloom County, Badtz Maru, my cat Orie, and home improvement of my little condo. Plus I've recently become interested in genealogy and I am trying to trace my family tree. I have a degree in Art History, but I work in the accounting department of a medical equipment company. I'm pretty shy in person, but for some reason I find it incredibly easy to say anything about myself in electronic format and because of that and my need to express myself, I tend to sometimes ramble on. Did you notice? :) Ok, enough about me! Let's hear from the rest of the group, there are 52 more of you out there, so who are you?? Inquiring minds want to know... There was also talk about Delerium on the Enigma mailing list. I eventually bought "Semantic Spaces" and fell in love with Kristy's vocals. After doing some research, I found out that Kristy had a band called Rose Chronicles. I was surprised to find "Happily Ever After" at a local record store in St. Louis. Coincidentally, I was in Vancouver about two weeks later (to meet some friends to go skiing at Whistler), and I bought "Shiver". Later that month, I called Nettwerk and bought "Karma" and "Glide" (and chatted briefly with Erika). I started 'Vicious-Thorn' probably a week before they broke up. Other music: Barenaked Ladies, Delerium, Enigma, Tara MacLean, Radiohead, Moby, James, INXS, jazz, country (some), POE, Natalie Merchant, 10000 Maniacs, The Drovers, El Vez That's all from me, Lawrence :) ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 29 Jun 1999 23:08:14 -0700 From: "Julian Figueroa" Subject: Personal Chronicles first time #### It was midnight in a dark room. somewhere in colorado... cold... autumn.. rain... the radio on, the curtains drawn... the song was etheriel.... some chanting angel.. no.. this was no angel.. her voice carried beautiful sin pleasure... but the music... yeah, the music didn't even have to be there for the effect... it was just that voice.... wrenched down into my heart with every breath... intro #### guess you start this section saying some sort of "hello" and maybe some info? nah... not really in the mood for the standard intro.. it's late...
