I'm always amazed - and heartened - by how many people actually find bands after hearing them on TV or the Web, or campus/community radio, but I guess I'm really no exception. My girlfriend heard about ten seconds of a track on a particular episode of Nikita (yeah, we never used to miss it - OK?) and we ended up tracking it down on the AOL site mentioned in earlier posts. The track is called "Fire and Roses", and it's by Mimi Goese (pron. Gay zuh). Mimi used to sing in Hugo Largo (with TWO bass players!). The disk this track came off of is called "Soak" and it is probably not available at fine record stores everywhere. We had to special order it. Soak Is one of the best things I have heard in a long time. It's not pop songs, not trance, not spoken word, not really any particular pigeonhole, but it IS an exceptionally good, cohesive work from someone who obviously thought about what she was doing an awful lot. Most of the tracks are songs, in some way shape or form, but she really plays around with them. Or more accurately, she does what the pieces need her to do. It's really not an album you can dissect technically, because there aren't any seams to pull apart. I never gush about albums - I rarely gush about anything - but I really highly recommend this disk. $.02 - Bill ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 20 Mar 1999 02:36:26 PST From: "Erika Fukumoto" Subject: RC related bands Hi all, Since the list has been dicussing RC related bands, I'd like to throw my thoughts in on this subject. I think the only Canadian band that even remotely sounds like Rose Chronicles is Toronto's An April March. I just recently played tracks from their latest album on my show, and although the music didn't blow me away, I must admit that I liked it. The melodic guitar and bass guitar reminded me a lot of Rose Chronicles, although the vocalist's singing is closer to Liz Fraser. I've heard Mimi Goese's voice, on a Moby album. She's got a great voice, but it's not like Kristy's... Oh, I just found out that Front Line Assembly will be touring... They're coming to Vancouver on April 24th to play at the Maritime Labour... Maybe Kristy will show up? Probably not, but it'll be a rare chance to see one of Canada's best groups. They'll be palying Toronto too... Well, take care all, bye Erika Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 20 Mar 1999 14:59:17 -0600 (CST) From: "Lawrence J.
