I think this is definitely good (and free) PR for Kristy. Maybe more people will show up to her concerts? Actually, how large is the crowds at her concerts? Anyways, to respond to the question... 'Undertow' is a solid song, lyric-wise, but, IMO, probably doesn't represent her best vocal abilities. I say that because what really attracted me was her ability to reach the upper ranges consistently and with control. So anyways, I think 'Awaiting Eternity' represents her vocal range the best on "Shiver". Did Rose Chronicles release any tracks off of "Happily Ever After"? Picking a song off that album is pretty tricky. I really like 'Vicious Thorn' and 'Ornament', but 'Voice in Jail' is also an excellent track. I was going to write more, but I'm too tired. :( Good night, Lawrence :) ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 08 Nov 1998 11:58:15 -0500 From: John Nogueira Subject: Re: CBC RadioSonic Greatest Singers of All Time - Kristy takes 2nd Lawrence Kim wrote: > Anyways, to respond to the question... I had a hard time selecting a tune after giving Shiver another good hard listen (like you'd have to twist my arm). I narrowed the selections down to "Visions" and (bows to Lawrence) "Awaiting Eternity". Twisting my arm further, I would have picked Visions -- I can't help but float along with the intermingling of Kristy's voices with the dreamy musical landscape. Lots to explore here -- definite late-night-with-your-eyes-closed headphone music. And what a finish! I haven't given a similar listen to Happily Ever After since (panic) I found the case but no CD inside. I'm off to track it down... I was having a hell of a time with five songs on my list until "Spill" (track 12) came up. We have plenty of songs that have Kristy flying at ease in upper altitudes but Spill surprisingly has her coming in well under radar as well (I could actually sing along in parts). The song also includes those glass-breaking vocal squeaks and squeals that are in abundance on Happily Ever After while sparse if not missing entirely from Shiver. And I mustn't forget that there are plenty of examples of Kristy's penchant for tripling the number of syllables in a word. Overall, I think this song is an excellent Kristy sampler. Good question. I probably would have played the version of 'Awaiting Eternity' from the Glide single, or maybe 'Clouding Doubt'. I'm not going to try to choose one from HEA--you're right, it's very difficult. I agree, 'Spill' would be an excellent selection, but so would 'Bruise', with its incredible "stillborn cherub" part and 'Torn' with the "choose, choose now" part. And then you've still got 'Acquiesce' (my personal favorite on HEA) and 'Lovely Psycho', plus the songs with amazing endings like 'Ornament' and 'Heaven Tide'. There are just too many good songs on that album to choose from. Chris. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 08 Nov 1998 21:57:21 PST From: "Erika Fukumoto" Subject: Best Rose Chronicles songs I think I would have to pick "Brick & Glue" and "Visions" as well as "Awaiting Eternity" as the best Rose Chronicles songs. I would also pick "Lovely Psycho", "Spill" and "Blood Red" from "Happily Ever After". I think some b-side non album type stuff that's good is "Bounds Of Love" and "Heart Of Glass". Yea for Kristy! I think everyone who voted is happy. But I would have liked to see Kristy at Number One! take care, bye for now Erika ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ End of vicious-thorn-digest V2 #79 **********************************
