Hi If you're talking about shows as in gigs / concerts, then check out www.gigsandtours.com For London specifically, the best thing to do is buy yourself a copy of Time Out magazine as soon as you land - it has the listings for everything happening here, including gigs, films, theatre, events, museums.... I'd otherwise recommend: * 'Beach Club' - Monday nights at Notting Hill Arts Club (21 Notting Hill Gate) Free entry between 6 - 9 p.m., and then #4. Drinks are reasonably priced. It's a weekly club night started by my film-maker friend Stian and photographers Jorn and Marcus Features graphics / photography / short films by up'n'coming Scandinavian artists + DJs Similar venue to Head On, but really chilled out atmosphere. The Hives have hung out there a couple of times * 'Lazy Dog' - Sunday nights at Notting Hill Arts Club Doors open at 4 p.m., but get there for 3 p.m. to ensure you get in (it's very popular) Ben Watts from Everything But the Girl + 1 other are the regular DJs * Friday 22nd February - Dislocation @ Victoria & Albert Museum, Cromwell Road (nearest tube: South Kensington) It's a one-off gig / clubnight with Beach Club. There are going to be different musicians / DJs / sound installations in each room - - it's rumoured that Nils Petter Molvaer might be playing. * 12 Bar Club, Denmark Place (just off Charing Cross Road - nearest tube: Tottenham Court Road) Small intimate venue - really good for low-key acoustic gigs (I've seen Morten Abel, St. Thomas and Ephemera have all played warm-up gigs there before) * Camden Monarch, Chalk Farm Road Velvet Belly played here once, but it's otherwise more of an indie (rock) venue for up'n'coming bands Fridays and Saturdays are indie club night (playing tracks by people such as Pulp, Strokes, Pixies...) ...or for bigger venues, check out Shepherd's Bush Empire, Forum, Wembley Arena, Hackney Ocean... For jazz / soul music, Camden Jazz Cafe or Pizza Express in Soho (think it's Wardour Street) are good Depends on what your taste in music is - fLip - - -----Original Message----- From: Thomas Rinnan [mailto:thomasr@nvg.org] Sent: Monday, February 11, 2002 10:05 PM To: velvet-station@smoe.org Subject: [VS] anything going on in the UK these days? Hope y'all will forgive me for being slightly off topic here. I'm going for a short vacation in Britain from feb. 15. to feb. 25. and I wondered if there's any good shows in London (or elsewhere for that matter) while I'm over. Given the musically enlightened subscriber-mass on this list I figured I'd pop the question here :) Any links to more info would also be appreciated.
