What's moshing? Heh heh - that's an old slang word. You know how in the punk era you had pogoing? Well, moshing's kinda the same but for the rock / indie era. It's jumping up and down in time to the music at a gig....and maybe deliberately bumping into the person next to you mid-jump if you're really going to get into the swing of things. Rock'n'roll ! When you get a whole crowd of people doing that at the same time, it can be quite an experience! Do you get hurt? Can do - I've had a few bruises from when I moshed at a Cooper Temple Clause gig at Cargo and fell over. Could have been worse - could have been trampled on when that happened, but I was just really embarrassed, and the other fans were friendly and helped me up on my feet again before jumping around like crazy people again :) Not quite the right behaviour for something like a Velvet Belly or a Stina Nordenstam gig, but then again, I've heard of people in Tromso stage-diving at a Biosphere gig! Must be something in the air up there ....as for Japanese music - I recommend Boom Boom Satellites, Super Car and.....no, I've forgotten her name, how embarrassing! I'll have to have a look at the CD when I get home tonight and then get back to you with her name.... - -----Original Message----- From: Wmmvrrvrrmm mvrrrmvrrrmmmrrvvvv [mailto:wmmvrrvrrmm@mac.com] Sent: Friday, November 23, 2001 12:01 AM To: velvet-station@smoe.org Subject: Re: [VS]Moshing? > From: Philippa.Demonte@bmg.co.uk > > moshing at their gig there, heh heh - > that's very un-Japanese behaviour!!! You better tell me about this moshing word, I'm so behind with everything. I'm thinking about getting into Japanese Pop though. They must have some secret thing there , all hidden away that I'm dying to listen to. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 23 Nov 2001 20:28:49 +0000 From: Wmmvrrvrrmm mvrrrmvrrrmmmrrvvvv Subject: Re: [VS]Moshing? > From: Philippa.Demonte@bmg.co.uk > Date: Fri, 23 Nov 2001 11:59:23 +0100 > To: wmmvrrvrrmm@mac.com, velvet-station@smoe.org > Subject: RE: [VS]Moshing? > > Not quite the right behaviour for something like a Velvet Belly or a Stina > Nordenstam gig, but then again, I've heard of people in Tromso stage-diving at > a Biosphere gig! Must be something in the air up there I have a vague memory of the idea of pogoing in terms of punk music. There was one girl at the Velvet Belly gig in Camden who really did jump into the air and look as if she was really really enjoying the music like an enthusiastic child who just wanted to dance, she was quite a large girl too. Maybe the next one, assuming there's a dancy tune or two and a place to get up and leap around in a mad way, there might be a few more people doing the same thing. I'll make a special note of those Japanese titles Dom ------------------------------ End of velvet-station-digest V4 #49 ***********************************
