Just to ultimately confuse you..... The kind of vibe a get from it or at least the sense of something is different , as if she has herself matured, become a little wiser and left something behind. She is no longer singing her own version of various events that she might have emotionally encountered which I might have assumed some time back to be completely be wrong She had to come to some agreement about where things stood in relation to the way she saw things in her inner world. She can only stand where she is now and say that it doesn't matter how she saw things in the past and start afresh and she may well be going down the same old road again, I don't know. It's like a continuous story for me to encounter, I've only now got three of her albums, so there might be huge chunks in the couple of others which I don't have. The track in her latest album called The Diver sounds nothing at all like the track called The Diver in Anja Garbarek's latest album, and I'll say that because we know that Anja is one of those people who have been inspired by Stina Today, someone I know locally with whom I've never bothered to talk about music in any slightest form, not prompted in anyway whatsoever came out with the fact that he saw the Waterboys in concert about a month ago at the Brixton Academy. He did however mention that the warm up act consisted of a man who looked like a busker playing a guitar, however he didn't remember the man's name. Looking at the fact I know about who the Waterboys have been touring with and since the local person agreed that this man looked as if he was singing in hope for a crust of bread to eat, I guess that singer must have been Tom McRae. He only supported them on their U.S. tour recently...and almost stole their limelight at a few of the gigs (especially in Los Angeles!...and New York where John Cale and David Bowie went just to see Tom play) What did your friend think of the Waterboys gig at Brixton Academy btw? I went to a gig there a couple of weeks ago to see a band called The Cooper Temple Clause. They're the guys I went to the Fuji Rock Festival in Japan with in the summer - they had the Japanese screaming and cheering and moshing at their gig there, heh heh - that's very un-Japanese behaviour!!! I love seeing them play live....unlike Embrace, who they were supporting at Brixton Academy (booooooring, snooze) ...and then I went and saw Royksopp later that night. They're really starting to get big here in the UK. They were on tv last night playing 'Poor Leno' and I keep seeing posters for their album all over the underground - they've finally put Norway on the map for music (and about time too!) btw - Dom - Stina Nordenstam's in London sometime this week to play a gig at a cinema. Not sure when or where (think it could be the Curzon Soho on Shaftesbury Avenue - I saw Kings of Convenience play there once before a film screening - very bizarre) Anyway - 1 last thing before I sign off - remixes are really 'in' at the moment in the UK. I don't just mean dance remixes, but mixes like Missi Elliot vs. Nirvana and 'Stroke of Genie-us' (Christina Aguilera vs. The Strokes). So who could we mix Velvet Belly with, eh? ...which reminds me - isn't it Anne-Marie's birthday soon? - fLip - - -----Original Message----- From: Wmmvrrvrrmm mvrrrmvrrrmmmrrvvvv [mailto:wmmvrrvrrmm@mac.com] Sent: Thursday, November 22, 2001 8:35 PM To: velvet-station@smoe.org Subject: Re: [VS] Stina's days left behind & the man must have been Tom McRae Today, someone I know locally with whom I've never bothered to talk about music in any slightest form, not prompted in anyway whatsoever came out with the fact that he saw the Waterboys in concert about a month ago at the Brixton Academy. I still have the music he sung in my mind from the time I saw him at Borders early this year, the singing from hearing him sing live is so clear in my head that it's better than listening to the CD. His singing made me want want to buy him a cup of hot soup or a loaf of bread, but of course he looked so busy signing those autographs that I decided not to bother. > True, he does look like he's need of being fed, but it wasn't him who > supported the Waterboys at Brixton Academy. He only supported them on > their U.S. tour recently...and almost stole their limelight at a few > of the gigs (especially in Los Angeles!...and New York where John Cale > and David Bowie went just to see Tom play) It was a pity that it wasn't him. I tried to get him to describe the person as much as he could. But I'm rewriting the reality of his episode to fit in with my inner vision, byt the end of this year he should have sung at a good few more places that he didn't at all. So Waterboys must have loved Tom so much that they got someone to remind them of Tom McRae. > > What did your friend think of the Waterboys gig at Brixton Academy btw? He didn't tell me too much other than some of the history of the group and the fact that the group now didn't feature all of the band members. But he generally enjoys the celtic quality of their music and an appearance from The Waterboys in their present state was better than no appearance at all. I'll have to ask him again. My mind keeps mixing Velvet Belly's Drowning Sun in with Tim Buckley's Blue Melody. It didn't quite form as something meant for the dance floor but it takes me off into a state that lasts about a million years. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 22 Nov 2001 23:47:59 +0000 From: Wmmvrrvrrmm mvrrrmvrrrmmmrrvvvv Subject: Re: [VS]mixing Velvet Belly(ii) > From: Wmmvrrvrrmm mvrrrmvrrrmmmrrvvvv > Date: Thu, 22 Nov 2001 23:30:59 +0000 > To: > Subject: Re: [VS]mixing Velvet Belly > > > My mind keeps mixing Velvet Belly's Drowning Sun in with Tim Buckley's Blue > Melody. And mix that also with Kings of Convenience's "Once around the block" If I had something to make remixes and whatever, I'd be busy in that direction until I have the urge to start again in another direction and delete all my previous experiments. Actually I was playing a VB song on my iMac and my mother walked in and thought that in two places it reminded her of Carlie Simon's Itsy Bitsy Spider, now I think that may well have been 'So Close'. Maybe that could material for mix I'm being very pessimistic here and am certain either I've missed or will be missing the Stina Stint, but I'll take a look at Time Out never the less. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 23 Nov 2001 00:00:53 +0000 From: Wmmvrrvrrmm mvrrrmvrrrmmmrrvvvv Subject: Re: [VS]Moshing? > From: Philippa.Demonte@bmg.co.uk > > moshing at their gig there, heh heh - > that's very un-Japanese behaviour!!! You better tell me about this moshing word, I'm so behind with everything. I'm thinking about getting into Japanese Pop though. They must have some secret thing there , all hidden away that I'm dying to listen to. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 23 Nov 2001 00:26:00 +0000 From: Wmmvrrvrrmm mvrrrmvrrrmmmrrvvvv Subject: Re: [VS] left Stina's day behind :-( > From: Philippa.Demonte@bmg.co.uk > Subject: RE: [VS] Stina's days left behind & the man who wasn't Hom McRae > > btw - Dom - Stina Nordenstam's in London sometime this week to play a gig at a >cinema. Not sure when or where (think it could be the Curzon Soho on >Shaftesbury Avenue - I saw Kings of Convenience play there once before a film screening - very bizarre) I adore her website, alas I was too late to find out about the gigs! She was there today and the day before, and back in early October. :( So now to emotionally remove myself from mourning this situation, I'll state that I do not feel as close to her work as lets say to Velvet Belly's or Anja G's http://www.stinaonline.com/info/index.html ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 23 Nov 2001 00:59:10 +0000 From: Wmmvrrvrrmm mvrrrmvrrrmmmrrvvvv Subject: Re: [VS] left Stina's day behind (I misread the month) :-p No, I was jumping to conclusions it's actually December! One month to go. I'm doing cartwheels in my head. Does this must mean that Stina is finally out of her shell that's its been rumoured that she's been in for a good number of years. It just about ties in with my intuitive interpretation of her latest album. ------------------------------ End of velvet-station-digest V4 #48 ***********************************
