Hiya

Yngve - I couldn't remember - have you already been to the Lamb gig in
Norway?
I'm going to see them tonight in London and I cannot wait!!!

It seems to have been a great week for gigs all of a sudden (after a long
lull).

I went and saw William Orbit on Thursday - if you ever get the chance to see
him and his musicians play, 
you have to go see - it was just amazing, probably more so because it was at
a venue in London called 
the Barbican, and because not only was William Orbit on the stage, but there
was a real mixture of 
musicians like a modern day orchestra:  electronica, DJ, wind instruments,
brass instruments, 12 singers, 
percussionists....and at times the sound verged into Velvet Belly territory
(now there's a thought!).

It got even better though, because at the very end they performed an old
Strange Cargo track (Grapevine?)
with a special guest appearance from Beth Orton! Oh yeah!  I was half
expecting that maybe Madonna would 
do a guest appearance too, but no, didn't see her there.

Yesterday I went to see a band called Kosheen (think fusion of drum'n'bass /
breakbeats with soulful melodies).  
They played just before drum'n'bass DJs Fabio & Grooverider at a club called
Fabric, which is supercool for 
all the right reasons (i.e. you can wear what you want, there's a great
mixture of people, great venue, good music). 
The energy from vocalist Sian spread to the crowd, everyone was dancing and
singing along, and we all had
a great time - I love going to gigs like that :)

Next week my good friend Tom McRae is back in London again (he's got a gig
at Union Chapel, which is a gorgeous
venue - I saw Robin Gutherie from Cocteau Twins play there once with
Labradford - it'd be a perfect venue 
for Velvet Belly to play at).  Tom's just been touring North American with
the Waterboys, but I think after 
their gig in Los Angeles last week, Mike Scott's probably wishing that he
hadn't asked Tom to be his support.

There'd been a lot of problems with the sound during the gig, which really
pissed Tom off, but instead of 
letting the crowd down, he did something quite amazing.  He asked for all
the houselights to be turned up, 
asked the audience to move closer to the stage, and then he and his cellist
Oli performed the last song of 
their set completely unplugged!  Apparantly the audience went wild and
clapped and cheered for nearly 
15 minutes afterwards begging Tom and Oli to do an encore, but the Waterboys
wouldn't let them 
(Ouch!  Do I detect a hint of jealousy?)

I don't know how their gig went last night in San Francisco (the last of the
tour), but I e-mailed Tom
saying that if this rivalry between him and Mike starts getting out of hand,
there's going to be only 
1 way to sort this out once and for all, like real men.....with a one-on-one
football match, heh heh

Anyway - I've written more than enough in this e-mail message - William
Orbit / Kosheen / Tom McRae's gigs
get my seal of approval, and Adam, you say that Dar Williams is worth seeing
live.  Anyone else been to any good
gigs (concerts) lately?

his own internet radio programme, 
and his latest music mix has got the Royksopp track on it that Erlend from

This is the irony - the gig was sold out before Tom was confirmed to play it
(with Dave Matthews) - 
I won't know until I get there if I'm definitely going to be able to get in
or not (maybe if I sneak 
in during soundcheck and then hide at the venue until the gig starts - it
wouldn't be the first time
I've done that!),  but I think that Q online might have some tickets to be
won in a competition

maybe they could be backed by the Kristiansand fishermans choir, and they
should do a gig at the ENO as well
