Seems like she is one step ahead of us. She said that when's she's putting an album together, because she can't actually play any instruments, she goes around collecting sounds and then mixing them together, and then when she's happy with all the different noises, she samples them into a computer and manipulates them again until they sound totally different. It also said in the interview that certains sounds evoke certain images in her head, and she creates storylines which her songs are eventually based on. - -----Original Message----- > >Oh my gawd - wouldn't it be like a game of musical Chinese whispers? >Or like remixing a song until eventually the memory of a song has been >passed around so many people that it'll end up sounding completely different >from the original? ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 3 May 2001 05:36:33 EDT From: Wmvrrvrrmm@aol.com Subject: Re: [VS] Anja That all jut sounds bewilderingly beautiful In a message dated 03/05/2001 10:35:21, Philippa.Demonte@bmg.co.uk writes: >I just read an interview with Anja Garbarek yesterday. >Seems like she is one step ahead of us. >She said that when's she's putting an album together, because she can't >actually >play any instruments, she goes around collecting sounds and then mixing >them >together, >and then when she's happy with all the different noises, she samples them >into a >computer and manipulates them again until they sound totally different. > >It also said in the interview that certains sounds evoke certain images >in >her head, >and she creates storylines which her songs are eventually based on. > The Wmmvrrvrrmm Place ! http://members.aol.com/wmvrrvrrmm The art and writings of myself, Dominic (wmmvrrvrrmm) Kulcsar The Velvet Belly Page http://www.geocities.com/velvet_belly_uk My unofficial fansite dedicated to the Norwegian band Velvet Belly ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 3 May 2001 05:49:01 EDT From: Wmvrrvrrmm@aol.com Subject: Re: [VS] Anja In a message dated 03/05/2001 10:39:36, Wmvrrvrrmm@aol.com writes: >That all jut sounds bewilderingly beautiful > > Where was that interview from then? One of those eh! I'm going to have to pay her a visit one day and get her to talk about it all again in English. I'm getting hooked on the ideas of the transformations going on in her creative process. It's a form of surrealism happening in there. It's a railroad to that other world I've read that Bjork when she's composing goes into a state where she doesn't make sense when she tries to talk, so the interviewer had to wait a few minutes for her to come down to Earth (as it were) The Wmmvrrvrrmm Place ! http://members.aol.com/wmvrrvrrmm The art and writings of myself, Dominic (wmmvrrvrrmm) Kulcsar ------------------------------ End of velvet-station-digest V4 #21 ***********************************
