I'll wait til I see the picture until I make a statement :oO So you got to let us know when that is done! Btw, had a somewhat simular experience - only this was regarding Anne Marie's voice.. I was watching T.V, and they showed this commercial from Cacharel - I never caught the name of the product (I am quite sure it's a perfume) However, the song used in the commercial caught my attention. The singer sounded so much like Anne Marie! And I mean - I've been a VB fan for a long time now, and I thought I could tell the difference between her voice and someone elses. Anyways, it started bugging me pretty bad, so I had to e-mail Cacharel and ask what song was used in the commercial. They got back to me - and I am sure some of you on this list allready heard this song - it's Song to the Siren (Tim Buckley cover) performed by This Mortal Coil feat. Liz Fraser!! Anyone else been struck by how much Liz Fraser sounds like Anne Marie in that particular song? So This Mortal Coil have probably influenced Velvet Belly a lot, and thus Anne Marie. Philippa, have you heard the Swedish singer Jessica Folker? I thinks she sounds much better than Christina Aguilera and similar artists. The song "To be able to love" is on the lists here in Sweden now, don't know how it's in the rest of Europe. /Stefan ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 11 Dec 2000 15:12:51 +0100 From: Philippa.Demonte@bmg.co.uk Subject: RE: [VS] Amy the Van girl Hi Liz Fraser was also the singer with Cocteau Twins (who were also on the 4AD label with This Mortail Coil), + she featured on a Massive Attack song last year - all of these bands have influenced Velvet Belly in some way or other. There are a lot of sound-alikes - that's why I mentioned the artists Francoiz Breut and Autour de Lucie last week (a new singer/songwriter I work with called Tom McRae supported them both at gigs in France earlier this month, that's how I 'discovered' them - it just struck me how similar their sound is to VB's) And maybe you will hear Anne-Marie's voice in other contexts - first there was a collaboration with Melt (who Vidar and Kay-Rune played with at the Quart Festival this year), then the 'Skrapjern & Silke' project (with Norwegian author Lars Saarbye Christensen) + a collaboration with dance duo Illumination on a track called 'Somewhere' (on the album 'This is Illumination') - I remember the first time I heard it - - the voice sounded familiar, but it took me a while to realise who was singing :) Maybe Anne-Marie did some projects in the Netherlands too whilst she was living there - I don't know. Jessica Folker? No, never heard of her (as for Christina Aguilera - She's talented, but you'll never find her music on my stereo!) btw - I saw Morten Abel (ex-The September When) play his first acoustic gig in London on Friday - it wasn't anything fancy - just a warm-up for 2 more low-key gigs he's doing in London this week, but it was kinda interesting to hear how his songs must have sounded when he first wrote them (before he added other instruments and production). I would like to have said that it must have been a humbling experience to play here where no-one knows him (whilst he's a big star in Norway), but the audience was almost entirely made up of female Norwegian groupies living here, heh heh heh! I heard This Mortal Coils rendition of Song Of The Siren on David Lynch's film Lost Highway, and it's been on a British TV advert recently. It is very beautiful, but I haven't listened to it enough to establish a comparison with Anne-Marie's voice, I heard it twice on the cinema, and once on the Tv, from another room. I wasn't too keen on the This Mortal Coil's album with the track Velvet Belly, it just wasn't for me, even though a male singer on the album had my first name, who's voice didn't inspire me. I listened to it and took it back the next day. Maybe I might buy it again some other time when the clouds have cleared.
