I've had to stick it out with albums sold on British soil .
I just picked up Badly Drawn Boy today, it's actually interesting in some
places. There's one track that sounded a little inspired by an Angelo
Badalamenti piece (of Twin Peaks fame). I'm quite surprised with this little
album, I bought it because of the words on poster in the underground.
Although it's not particularily ambient as such, it fits into my melancholy
dream music collection which a good dose of Norwegian music seems to exist
within. I bought the soundtrack for Guinevere because of the petite Canadian
actress Sarah Polley's ethereal vocals, because I enjoyed her singing on the
Sweet Hereafter album.
I checked out with Jeff Buckley fans what they thought of Passing Thing, and
those who listened to this rather poor quality MP3 from over Napster loved it
very much and loved what they heard of Anne-Marie's voice. Maybe I've
listened to it six or seven hundred times on my computer or in my mind. One
person went as far as to transcribe the lyrics for a Jeff Buckley message
board. When people in the NG issue out the list of people who have covered
Jeff's songs or composed a song as a tribute to him, from now on Velvet Belly
is on their list. I hope that one day when there's an official tribute album
to Jeff made, that someone will approach Velvet Belly to contribute.
In view of your discovery a little while back regarding the extreme level of
influence from Talk Talk in Velvet Belly's work, some people in te Radiohead
NG are pointing out the Talk Talk influence in Radiohead's Kid A (whether
they're correct about this issue is a thing I can't presently state.)

I've wondered a little about the new V Paradis album, but not a great amount
because I kicked that obsession years back, I adore her second album the
most, since Serge Gainsbourg produced it and wrote the lyrics, but they've
all been produced well in the past anyway. Who's the lyricist and music
writer this time?
