Whatever profit I've downloaded the Shellyz Raven mp3s as well, converted them to wave, and made a CD out of the wave files. I've printed the CD cover as well, (color laser printer at work is a nice thing :) so now I have a Shellyz Raven CD in my CD rack.. :-) They are good, but I agree that the CD is a bit "flat", (but not as flat as f.ex. the Lene Marlin CD) and unfortunately some of the songs have a really bad mix. - ------- Daniel. Last weekend I was at an Apocalyptica concert (4 finnish guys playing Metallica on cellos). They really rocked... it was very funny. They also played songs by Sepultura, Slayer, and Pantera. I never listen to these bands, but hearing their "music" on cello really was fun. And the expressions on the faces of the cello players... makes me laugh. - ------- Daniel. There's still a Nul points / Eurovision Song Contest stigma attached to Norwegian music, regardless of how talented artists are today, so if Lene Marlin is the first of many to make a really big breakthrough abroad (especially in the UK, Germany or US), it counteracts the international perception of Norwegian music being all about Eurovision. If you can't get into the international scene by the front door, you either have to get someone else to bulldoze it down for you, or you cheat and sneak through the back door (like A-ha did with the Take On Me video when all else had failed), and then you get the ketchup effect - nothing happens for ages, then suddenly everyone wants to know you. You might disagree, but that's how the music business works. - Philippa - > -----Original Message----- > From: Yngve Hauge [SMTP:onealien@mo.himolde.no] > Sent: 17 September 1999 09:57 > To: Velvet Station > Subject: [VS] From daniel (and not from me :) > > > On Thu, 16 Sep 1999, Yngve Hauge wrote: > > > btw). It's incredible how good they play > these metal classics ;-Þ And I simply love strings. Strings, IMHO, is a way to give music some sort of boost to say it that way. A song can sound boring and uninspired in the first place, but with a layer of strings added brings forth the essence of the other instruments. Though it can be overdone as well (not mentioning any examples here :) An example of some genious use of strings is Lisa Gerrard's album Mirror Pool - especially the first couple of tracks. It is also used with success on Kristin Hersh's "Strings" EP. Those two examples are very different ways of using strings, but both are just amazing. *hugs* - -- Yngve ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 17 Sep 1999 14:33:19 +0200 (CEST) From: Yngve Hauge Subject: [VS] Frifot Hi, the band Frifot was mentioned on Ecto yesterday, and I can't say I've heard about them at all. Hurrah! I think the magazine's called Chio - Navigator For Modern Women (4/99), and it's got a picture of a woman and a beautiful cheetah (big cat / world's fastest animal) on the front. I can't speak Dutch, but it's not so difficult to understand phrases from the interview like: "Wij staan altijd in de schaduw van Zweden" (We're always in the shadow of Sweden) or "Maar in Noorwegen is de natuur weer veel inspirerender" (But in Norway the nature is more inspiring)....at least, I think that's what they mean. - Philippa - > -----Original Message----- > From: Yngve Hauge [SMTP:onealien@mo.himolde.no] > Sent: 17 September 1999 13:33 > To: Velvet Station > Subject: [VS] Frifot > > Hi, > > the band Frifot was mentioned on Ecto yesterday, and I can't say I've > heard about them at all.
