In return, can you e-mail the music controller at BBC Radio 1 here in London - the station is now also broadcasting over the internet, which means that Radio 1 can be heard around the world, so finally anyone outside of the UK has a legitimate reason for contacting them :) http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio1/index.shtml jeff.smith@bbc.co.uk (he's the music controller) There's also BBC Radio 2 (which, if rumours are correct, played "Easy" yesterday) http://www.bbc.co.uk/cgi-bin/radio2/front.pl radio2website@bbc.co.uk ...and finally Virgin Radio (which can also be heard worldwide over the internet and via satelite) http://www.virginradio.com/ team@thebreakfastshow.com (The main dj on the breakfast show is Chris "Christophe Lammie Pie" Evans, who also owns the station and has a tv programme called TFI Friday) Hey have you seen the latest message on the VB guest book? It's from someone else in England....which probably means that there are more we don't know about :) - Flip - > -----Original Message----- > From: ElinS [SMTP:elin@rmta.org] > Sent: 15 September 1999 19:05 > To: Philippa > Subject: nyttig > > Hei! > > Nyttig info: > http://www.nrk.no/petre/ P3s hjemmeside > howard&hc@nrk.no Howard og HCs felles e-mail adr. We should work hard now that it seems the market opens up for more alternative artists (read : Lene Marlin who wouldn't have gotten this attention just a few years ago, and look at her sales now. If only all artists would get as much backing as she does then the world would be a much better music place :) I would say that if we try to mail copies of Lucia to independent radio stations in USA we would help to get things started there as well. My friends there love VB, so there is a potensial. I've discussed this with Philippa among others, but wouldn't it be an idea to open up for discussion of other alternative norwegian female artists/female fronted bands as well? You can't say that it is much noise here like it is now anyhow :) I think Elin would agree with me that Ecto wouldn't have been as good as it is now with only discussions about Happy Rhodes. Andyway - Any rumours of upcoming Velvet Belly concerts and if so where ? And besides that - If you haven't seen Lamb live yet then make sure you get to see them on their current tour. Among the dates are Oslo Rockefeller on Nov 13 and someplace in Copenhagen around that time. Oh and just a question : What on earth happened to the band Release Party? I really loved their debut albums a few years ago, but haven't heard anything after that. Any info will be appreciated. *hugs* - -- Yngve ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 16 Sep 1999 13:06:35 +0200 From: Philippa.Demonte@bmg.co.uk Subject: RE: [VS] FW: nyttig Hi again I don't know about Norwegian female artists - personally, I'd rather chat about Scandinavian artists in general (anyone heard of Morten Abel, Poor Rich Ones, Kings of Convenience, Wannadies....I've met them all, and they all want to be successful abroad...+ Stefan and another Swedish friend have been raving about Baxter lately too). But - just for you, Yngve, look out for a Danish artist called Marie Franks. I'm trying to think who she reminds me of...hm, sounds a bit like Bjork on Brother Brown's "Under The Water", otherwise like Edie Brickell and the New Bohemians and Counting Crows (according to danish magazine ZOO). Looks a bit like a blonde Natalie Imbruglia... What gigs have you all been to lately? Tina - how was Cher? A friend took me to see Tim Keegan last night (I'd love to know what the support band were called though - 3 bass players + effects) and I saw Death In Vegas at the weekend - Dot Allison appeared with them for the song "Dirge" - shame Iggy Pop wasn't there to perform "Aisha" live with them too... > -----Original Message----- > From: Yngve Hauge [SMTP:onealien@mo.himolde.no] > Sent: 16 September 1999 11:16 > To: Philippa.Demonte@bmg.co.uk > Cc: velvet-station@smoe.org > Subject: Re: [VS] FW: nyttig > > > Hi you all ... > > > Elin and Yngve > > > > Elin did the work, but did mail it from the wrong address so it bounced > back to me :) I agree though. Hi again, There are lots upon lots of female alternative/indie artists/female fronted bands in Scandinavia, so my guess is that if we stick to them we'll have more than enough to discuss around here. I counted the ones I got in my collection and got to 16 of them (Stina Nordenstam is among them btw). Another thing I would like to do is to somehow get those Shellyz Raven mp3's converted to wave and make a CD out of it. Whatever profit would be transfered back to Shellyz Raven to help them continue making music. I got some other ideas also, but those do involve money which I don't have right now :) I'll get back to that later. - -- Yngve ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 16 Sep 1999 17:25:47 +0200 From: Stefan Granbom Subject: [VS] Stina >There are lots upon lots of female alternative/indie artists/female >fronted bands in Scandinavia, so my guess is that if we stick to them >we'll have more than enough to discuss around here. Stina got her own site now, it is http://www.nordenstam.com I think the site is very strange and crap, it only works in internet explorer 4 and 5, not netscape at all. There was an interview with her in the newspaper Dagens Nyheter last Sunday, this is the first interview in many years. You can read the interview at http://www.dn.se/DNet/articles/89600-89699/89611/stina.html, in Swedish of course. Someone on Stinas mailing-list is now translating it to english, so if anyone is interested i can mail it to you when it is finished. The interview is very good, Stina is really special. For anyone who likes Portishead, they can check out the Swedish group Hayce, and the album underneath the floor. They are far from as good as Portishead, but maybe you will like it. Velvet Belly's best song, hmmm..., it is difficult, but it must be Easy. I think the song it's a bit happier than the others, more catchy, i especially like when the chorus starts. >Another thing I would like to do is to somehow get those Shellyz >Raven mp3's converted to wave and make a CD out of it. I think they are good, however the songs reminds of each others too much. Philippa wrote: Have any of you heard of a Norwegian band called Pullover? No i haven't, but they got a really crap name.
