Welcome to the list!! There are several people I had expected would have joined by now, but I guess they are a bit slow :) Hmmm, if everyone of us each month did send a CD to someone who maybe would like VB then 144 people outside Norway would get to hear them this year. Just me rambling :) What we used to do on Ecto earlier was to buy every Happy Rhodes CD they had in the local record store. Then they would have to order new CDs, and people would notice that they did sell some. But the main thing is - how could anyone possibly afford to do something like that in this country? *hugs* - -- Yngve ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 08 Jan 1999 18:55:13 +0100 From: Herr X Subject: Re: [VS] first non-norwegian on the list At 16:15 1999-01-08 +0100, you wrote: >Hi, > >Just wanted to inform you that we got a Swede among us >now. Welcome to the list!! Ok, I guess it is me you mean! Maybe i should introduce myself then.... My name is Stefan Granbom, 28 years old and lives in Gothenburg. I have three albums with VB, window tree, the landing and lucia. Don't have the first two. I also got the singles the conversation stops and easy. The singles are very good. Of the albums I have, i like window tree most. I don't think Lucia has released here in Sweden, i found mine at a second hand store for just 30 SEK. Strange, but i was really happy when i found it! And when i bought the single easy, they said on the record store that i was the first person to buy this single. The single had been there for two months and it was at one of the biggest (and cheapest) record stores (skivhugget) in Sweden. Velvet Belly don't sell many records here in Sweden, that's for sure! In fact norwegian music isn't popular in Sweden. Norwegian music I like is: Bel Canto, Biosphere, Velvet Belly, and some things with Fra Lippo Lippi and A-ha. BTW i would appreciate tip for similar music that i don't am aware of! Once VB got very good reviews in Swedish newspapers and magazines, and it was when they released window tree. They were also at Swedish music festival at Hultsfred, and there was a program about them on ZTV. I discovered them when they released this album. I have seen VB once, it was at underground in Gothenburg. It was after they had released window tree and it was a good concert. There were for a while some guys (militaries) who tried to be funny in front of Anne Marie when she sang, so it was hard for her to be serious. And one time she started to laugh when she were supposed to sing. And there was a mixer guy who several times was at the stage fixing with something, at last it was it was someone in the band that said to him that he should leave the stage. Once I got an email from Anne Marie, that am I very proud of! Before i joined this list, did you wrote in norwegian then? Because I think I can understand most of the norwegian language and it is easier for me to write in swedish. I think it is easier for you to understand me, than for me to understand you. You were brought up with swedish TV, right!? So for me you can still write in norwegian! Happy to be the first non-norwegian on this list, but unhappy that Velvet Belly isn't more famous than they are. Ha det! /Stefan Granbom http://user.tninet.se/~wxa417h ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 8 Jan 1999 20:32:30 +0100 (CET) From: Yngve Hauge Subject: Re: [VS] first non-norwegian on the list Hi > > Before i joined this list, did you wrote in norwegian then? > Because I think I can understand most of the norwegian language and it is > easier for me to write in swedish. We try to keep things in english cause we expect europeans and americans to join in not too long, and that means they should have the same opportunity to check the digests as the rest of us. > > Happy to be the first non-norwegian on this list, but unhappy that Velvet > Belly isn't more famous than they are. > That is so true ... the reaction I get when playing their music outside Norway is amazing. The problem is that BMG doesn't know how to market them (especially in the US) as they are not very much into alternative music. That is what VB say themselves at least. It is a combination of that and being cowards I guess. At least we are trying to do our best to spread the word. I do that both ways actually - I promote american indie artists here and VB over there. Easier to pay a CD with a CD to say it that way. About norwegian artists I would recommend in the same genre as VB and Bel Canto - earlier I would say Cane, but they did give up after Warner Norway did need too much time to decide what to do. They did release one album called Unable though, and it should be possible to get hold on. The first Kari Rueslaatten album Spindelsinn is also great. - -- Yngve n.p.
