I had a great vacation hiking and camping in southern UT and CO. When I came home, I found a few interesting tidbits waiting for me. First, this was posted to the Veda site, which I haven't seen mentioned on the list. ============================================================================ new records posted by: veda date: July 29, 2002 they're not up on the order page yet, but Auditorium and Silver are both available now to order. Auditorium is the new live record, taken from shows in vancouver on may 24 and 25 2002. it's an hour long, and includes reworked models of the songs Plants, Ballad of Marie Sanders, Lying, Instructions, birdsong, Precious Heart, Tuk Hymn, With no Caring, A Peculiar Value, Bedlam, and many others. plus amusing banter! if you want to order it now, just print out the order page and cross off the title of another cd, writing auditorium in its place. prices are the same at this point, but there will be an increase in the fall so consider yourself warned. Silver is a new collection of songs written for the 25th anniversary of the Vancouver Folk Music Festival. we did a quick and dirty recording of the new song cycle, and made 500 of a limited edition signed and numbered (and hand assembled) cd. it is 30 minutes long, and very sweet. to order it, just do the same as above for auditorium. Silver is priced at 12 dollars canadian, and 10 dollars US. There are only 100 left. other news: I'm off to whitehorse, yukon for the rest of the summer to work on new material. in the fall there will be a cross canada band tour in support of Auditorium, and hopefully another field study jaunt in germany. I'm also hoping to make it down to california sometime in the next 6 months, but til then you can see my husband's band p:ano touring from vancouver to san diego and back mid august. they're lovely, and i play quite a bit on their new record When it's dark and it's summer. happy trails everyone. ============================================================================ I also got a note from Veda saying that she was fine with us distributing copies of the cassette on CD. She says "that`s fine by me that you guys are reviving `songs about..`. i actually directed someone to the trajectory site to ask about it last weekend. it would be great if i could get 5 bucks a copy, and would bolster my faith in people`s caring about artists as well." So, let's move ahead and try to get this done! I don't want to be a policeman about getting the money to Veda. As far as I'm concerned, people can send extra money to Veda when they buy the new albums (which I assume that people getting this will want to do). Alternately, if anyone wants to send extra money to me or the branch they are in, we can arrange to get it to Veda from there. I'm not totally sure how the international stuff works with paypal. A quick glance at the site shows that you can send and receive money for free, but there ar some weird caveats that I don't understand about international exchanges. I have picked a few branches depending on what part of the world you are in. You should contact your branch to work out the details of covering the cost of getting the CD to you. I don't think the branches are too large if we just split it by country/region, but if you feel like you have too much to handle, we can split branches up. Stephanie (Canada) should have a copy of the CD already. Stefan (Europe), you should drop Dan (Carnivore@att.net) a note to coordinate getting a copy of the CD and Mike (foghornj@earthlink.net) for artwork. If you are able to print out your own artwork, you can just grab it from http://home.earthlink.net/~foghornj/vhpbcd2.pdf If you would like artwork provided, you should send an extra dollar to your branch. The branches can "order" all the artwork from Mike and get them shipped in one package, and then pass them out to people. Here's how I'd like to handle my branch. I think $2 will cover my costs. I can get my hands on padded mailers for free, and have enough extra jewel boxes that I don't mind giving a handful away. (Other people's costs may vary. I'm probably scrounging up close to a dollars worth of extras on each package.) If you want artwork, add $1. If you don't need a jewel box, let me know and you can save me some postage. Usually I just lose money by doing something like this, but if by chance I come out ahead, I'll add the extra money to whatever I send Veda. If you want to add $5 for Veda, you can do that too. You can send me money via paypal or write to me off-line if you want to send me a check. I'll do blanks and postage too, but I can't imagine that would be more convenient for anyone. I think it would be good to set some deadlines to try to get things moving. I'll shut down my branch in two weeks (August 18). Ideally I'd like to have everything from people before that so I can get things out before my next trip. I'll be travelling August 26 to Sept 22. (Anyone out there in the former Yugoslavia?) Here's the list we have so far. Canada: BRANCH: "Stephanie Grossman" Anne-Marie Long Arthur Liestman Brian Gue "Dave Upham" Emily/"Canadian Weirdo" Justin Bur "Sarah Feltham" "Sarah Mitenko" USA: BRANCH: Neal Copperman Allan Anderson "ayesha coosemans" (SF til Aug 30/Canada after) brad Cheryl Carlson dmw erica Jeff Wasilko John Jonathan Sadow Lori Shiraishi "Michael R.
