If she ever gets radio play and CD orders from the area, there's always a chance. This is where a fan network is invaluable, but patience is required. A DIY attitude also helps. - -- Do you have a local college/community radio station? Do they know who Veda is? Do they have a copy of at least one of her CDs? (_Spine_ would be the most likely candidate.) If not, get their information to Veda and she can have a CD and press kit sent out. Once they have the CD, request it regularly, and get your friends to do the same. - -- Once the radio airplay thing is happening, the next key part is a venue. Is there a coffeehouse/concert series in the area that would be an appropriate venue for Veda's music? (If not, how big is your living room?) Make sure the people in charge of the venue know who she is and have heard her music. Again, get their information to Veda so they can get CD and press information. - -- Keep an eye on her tour itinerary. Is she setting up shows in the US? Coming to the States for just one or two gigs usually isn't feasible, so you would have to catch her in the midst of a tour. Make sure the venue people are aware of when she's available. Maybe they'd be bringing someone in for whom Veda would be a good opener (hey, it's a start). - -- Once a date is confirmed, bring everyone you've ever met to the show. Only a good turnout will ensure a repeat invitation to play in the area. Since she usually plays on one or the other of the coasts, working a Midwest date into the logistics is going to be difficult (probably another main reason why the closest she's made it to Ohio so far was Pittsburgh and also the Michigan Womyn's Music Festival), but anything is possible. Radio play is the #1 way to bring someone into an area -- if there's only going to be the five people in town who have heard of her via the Internet at the gig, it's not going to be a worthwhile thing for her to do. But if there's at least the chance of a well-attended gig and the opportunity to sell a bunch of CDs, it just might be able to happen. ======================================= Meredith Tarr New Haven, CT USA mailto:meth@smoe.org http://www.smoe.org/meth "things are more beautiful when they're obscure" -- veda hille ======================================= Live At The House O'Muzak House Concert Series http://www.smoe.org/meth/muzak.html ------------------------------ End of trajectory-digest V5 #29 *******************************
