Greetings Folks ... I feel somewhat hesitant to post this request to the list, given that I am not sure whether live recordings of Veda exist, nor am I sure whether she is supportive of the existence and sharing of such recordings etc, but I wondered whether anybody out there might have any live recordings or radio appearances etc of Veda's? (I worry too much don't I?!) :) I live in Australia, and as silly as this may sound, have adored Veda's music ever since I was sent "Spine" and the record ... oh my ... intoxicating is scarcely the word, but what a truly *amazing* creation that record is. I have never had the opportunity to see Veda perform live (damn the tyranny of distance! ), thus this post .... Thank you for reading! Kindest Wishes, Heidi. - ----- all times can be inhabited, all places can be visited. in a single day the mind can make a millpond of the oceans. some people who never have crossed the land they were born on have travelled all over the world. the journey is not linear, it is always back and forth, denying the calendar, the wrinkles and lines of the body. the self is not contained in any moment or any place, but it is only in the intersection of moment and place that the self might, for a moment, be seen vanishing through a door, which disappears at once. *JW* * heidi maier - maier@joynet.com.au * ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 30 Jul 1999 20:08:39 -0400 From: meredith Subject: veda as session musician Hi! I've been meaning to post something like this for a while, but it took a surprise to finally get me off my butt. What albums by other artists has Veda played/sung on? On the way home from Falcon Ridge I was listening to James Keelaghan's _A Recent Future_, which I picked up in Canada since it has the original version of "Cold Missouri Waters" on it (my favorite song on the _Cry Cry Cry_ album), and was astounded to hear him list Veda when he ran through the album credits in the last track. She plays piano - not sure on which songs. Two other discs I bought in Vancouver also have Veda on them: Oh Susanna's _Johnstown_ (which is really good - amazingly so, since imho she's so horrid live), and Ford Pier's _12 Step Plan, 11 Step Pier_ (which has to be one of the more amusing albums I've heard lately :). I know there has to be more. Can anyone help? I'm thinking of adding a "session discography" to the web site, and I'd like it to be as thorough as possible. So start going through those jewel booklets ... +==========================================================================+ | Meredith Tarr meth@smoe.org | | New Haven, CT USA http://www.smoe.org/~meth | +==========================================================================+ | ectofest '99: sat. sept. 4, 1999 kenosia park, danbury, ct | | http://www.ectofest.org | +==========================================================================+ ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 30 Jul 1999 20:15:28 -0400 From: meredith Subject: Re: Veda Live Recordings? Hi! First, thanks to those who posted about Calgary! Julia, you were at the Vancouver fest too? If you saw someone wandering around on Saturday with a Scrappy Bitch shirt on, that was me. Sorry we didn't get a chance to meet. (I wore the same shirt to Falcon Ridge last weekend, and got to talk to a lot of people about Veda because of it -- people kept saying "nice shirt, was that a real thing?" and were much pleased to find out that yes, indeed, it was. :) Anyway, Heidi wondered: >I feel somewhat hesitant to post this request to the list, given that I am >not sure whether live recordings of Veda exist, nor am I sure whether she >is supportive of the existence and sharing of such recordings etc, but I >wondered whether anybody out there might have any live recordings or radio >appearances etc of Veda's? (I worry too much don't I?!) :) I've got lots. Veda's generally pretty cool about live recordings. She even told me once about some guy in Vancouver who records all of her shows there and sells them for $5, and she didn't seem too perturbed by that notion (though I sure was!). The only reservations I've seen her show have been at recent performances, which have concentrated mostly on the brand-new material that hasn't been released yet. I think she'd rather people have a chance to buy the new album before those tapes start making the rounds. I can see where she's coming from on that front. That said, I have plenty of pre-new-album shows, and a few radio appearances as well. Drop me a line off-list and we can work something out. (To the list at large: don't all jump into line -- I'm NOTORIOUS for taking a long time to get to making tapes, so don't say you weren't warned!) >I live in Australia, and as silly as this may sound, have adored Veda's >music ever since I was sent "Spine" and the record ... oh my ... >intoxicating is scarcely the word, but what a truly *amazing* creation that >record is. Why should that be silly? _Spine_ is what did it for me. +==========================================================================+ | Meredith Tarr meth@smoe.org | | New Haven, CT USA http://www.smoe.org/~meth | +==========================================================================+ | ectofest '99: sat. sept. 4, 1999 kenosia park, danbury, ct | | http://www.ectofest.org | +==========================================================================+ ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 30 Jul 1999 19:31:47 -0400 From: "rachel stone" Subject: Re: veda as session musician >I know there has to be more. The only track I've been able to hear Veda play on on the James Keelhagen CD is the first track--Sweetgrass Moon--and it's beautiful--probably the best track on the CD. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 31 Jul 1999 00:19:07 -0400 From: meredith Subject: Re: veda as session musician Hi! And he has a new one being released in case you all are interested. Dunno if Veda is on it or not. If you haven't already heard, the new cd is entitled Radio Fusebox I'd ask Andy about the title but he is out of town....ok so, if you want the new cd it's easy, send 18 dollars (US or CNDN) to : Pop 60 PO Box 5 Terra Cotta, Ontario Canada L0P 1N0 (make the checks out to Andy Stochansky not Pop 60) And he's playing 1 show in Toronto and two in the states (Sept. 2 at Wetlands in NY) Just an FYI Kat who is slowly losing her mind.
