Just a quick note to say that Veda's mainstage set rocked at the Vancouver Folk Music Festival this evening. The crowd didn't quite know what to do with her, but I think they were used to that since she's been there quite a few times. :) She hit the stage at sunset, and it was a gorgeous setting to hear her play. The set list: Gone Not Gone Born Lucky Three Times Thin Williamsburg Bridge Songbirds (an "aria" she was asked to write using the songs of local birds - -- it was a cappella and quite odd, yet beautiful- and segued without a pause into...) Kill Zone Slumber Queen Peculiar Value (accompanied by French horn, which worked wonderfully) The Skilled And Devoted Band were in fine form, especially Ford. And for the record, Veda's hair was luminously, brightly Red. :) The new album is titled _You Do Not Walk In This World Alone_ (I think -- I may be wrong by a word, I didn't have anything to write it down when it was announced). It's still set for a September release. I'm trying to decide if I'm going to go back to the Folkfest tomorrow ... there's a lot of really good stuff on the docket, including Kinnie Starr, but we were thinking of taking the ferry to Victoria instead. Decisions, decisions ... the music may just prevail. If I see Veda at any of the workshop stages, I'll report here as well. The other cool thing today was going to the Vancouver Art Gallery and checking out their Emily Carr collection. There's a lot of information about Ms. Carr on the walls, and one wall lists the artistic works that have been inspired by her. Veda's _Here Is A Picture_ rounds out the "Music" list. Kinda cool to see. It was also fascinating to finally see some of Carr's paintings, after reading some of her writings and of course listening to Veda's album about a thousand times. That's enough for now I think ... +==========================================================================+ | Meredith Tarr meth@smoe.org | | New Haven, CT USA http://www.smoe.org/~meth | +==========================================================================+ | "things are more beautiful when they're obscure" -- veda hille | | *** TRAJECTORY, the Veda Hille mailing list: *** | | *** http://www.smoe.org/meth/trajectory.html *** | +==========================================================================+ ------------------------------ End of trajectory-digest V3 #63 *******************************
