I admit, I'm a rare poster around these parts, but I thought I'd share how fabulously fabulous the Veda Hille show in Montreal was last Wednesday... A close friend that I met in France last summer was in town, and me and my friend Lisa thought we'd bring her to the show because I had played Veda's music non-stop during the summer, and she had loved it. So... after a long dressed rehearsal for a play we had on Thursday night, we trudged to the club and had an amazing time... This was the third Veda show I've been to. It was actually a benefit for the McGill sexual assault center, and tehre were a bunch of bands that played before her, most of them very very very good. A highlight was when the McGill dance group did a great choreography to "26 Years". It was beautiful. Then Ms Hille came on, and as she very astutely pointed out to the huge and very enthusiastic crowd, "it's so nice to be back in Canada and to be a rock star again." She played amazingly, and about half of her set was new songs. I especially loved the one about the 11 year old who is abandoned and only sees his mom again when he's 21. I don't quite remember the name, but it was great. Most of the songs were very upbeat, understandably because this was a crowd just begging to dance... There was an incredible energy. Like I think someone mentioned about a previous show, her and Ford had fun with the distortions and feedback. I was thrilled to hear her play "The Indian/Boatride to Skidegate", because it's just so damn good live, and it blows me away every time. The encores were especially fun. First, thanks to someone yelling it out in the audience, she played "the Neighborhood Song", which is nothing if not the most fun song in the world. Then, giving us some speech about how her dark/brooding cover is blown every time she plays this, she did a Jackson 5 cover. This resulted in everyone jumpind around like mad and going mildly insane with enjoyment. So,needless to say, the show was fabulous, and that's about all that's left to say 'bout that.
