["Atwell, Timothy" Subject: Re: Tour Dates Well there you go, Veda's manager beat me to the chase. Yes indeed, Veda is playing at Trinity College on March 5th. The concert is going to be held at my literary society's (CLEO's) house, at 98 Vernon St. in Hartford. The show is $10 for non-Trinity people and will start at 9pm with a party afterwards. I think that's all the necessary details. Timothy asked, > >Can someone please tell me the best method to record a live show. I think most people would say the *best* method is to record directly from the soundboard with the highest quality deck your budget can manage... but I assume you're asking about taping from the audience (perhaps 'stealth' taping, as well?), not taping from a direct connection to the soundboard, yes? I tape 70+ shows per year with everything from $90 SONY-or-AIWA analog portables to $800 DAT gear with $250 mics and a special mic pre-amp... sometimes I have used *both* at the same time, at the same event... those of you here who have received tapes made by my $90 portables can attest to their generally high quality, recordings good enough that some artists have used my tapes for 'live' sound clips on their website. In my experience, any problems with my results can be traced to (1) to errors in my live-taping technique, or (2) venue-related problems... not which hardware I used to record the event. Timothy, can you reply to me privately describing what 'qualities' in your results made some tapes OK and others not OK?
