I heard that the Bay Area shows went very well and were nicely attended. The show here was weird. The venue, Gabah, hosts different promotions and the last time the Bitches were here it was a Meow Mix West production, sponsored (?) by Jenny Shimizu. That fell through this time and it was night sponsored by The Brothel (!) which relives such classic bands as Dokken, Night Ranger, Metallica, Judas Priest, etc. Plain old eighties heavy metal. So the regulars sure weren't interested in Veda - there was a handful of folks in de rigeur full black motorcycle leathers, hair down to their butts - totally lifted right out of another decade. It was amusing. As we walked in I noticed that the door chick had a guestlist/tally sheet thing that said "ladies free". I thought - hmm, that's odd, for a Meow Mix gig. Fortunately, the other two bands that were supposed to play didn't show up, so Veda got to play two full sets. That was nice! I taped it - it's decent, not great - we were sitting too close to Ford's guitar amp the first set. There were only about 8 folks, including us, who were there to hear Veda. A bummer. She said next time they will try to play at Largo, which is a much better room. Melissa Ferrick plays there often. LA is a tough draw. I picked up a setlist - it's at home and I'm not, but if I remember I'll post the tunes. Kat and I and our friend Alisha had requested "Three" a year and a half ago at the Vancouver Folk Fest, and she declined to play it since it was "too early on a Sunday morning to be singing about sex," and she remembered and played it for us this time, with the band. It was coooool. Lori ------------------------------ End of trajectory-digest V2 #126 ********************************
