Both are definitely among the top five live music experiences I've had this year (and it's been a damn good year) and rank way up near the top on the all-time list too. So though she might be a maniac, Meredith really isn't exaggerating how amazing seeing Veda was! Mike < Reluctant as I am to be a me-too poster, that entire post (including the signature!) could have been written by me. I attended the Thursday show at the Merc, where the added energy of Ford Pier kicked the band into another dimension and completely blew me away. I was also glad for the chance to finally see Mila Drumke, and actually BUY her CDs, after enjoying her on tape for a year. Friday at Meth & Woj's house was a spiritual experience for me, and I'm sure for many of those who attended. Veda's voice reached right into my soul and shook it. After her set I told her about a great book I recently read by Harvey "Gizmo" Rosenberg called The Search for Musical Ecstasy, in which he described the best sound system he had ever heard as a string quartet in a drawing room of a chateau in France. Sitting six feet away watching Veda caress the keys of her Roland and hearing her voice without the "benefit" of electronics, I thought "it just doesn't get any better than this." I mentioned my own modified "Amadeus" theory, where the artist serves as a conduit between the audience and the "cosmic current of creation" that pervades the Universe. She took my hand, and said that she feels her performance as worship. Shiver me timbers! Thank you Meth & Woj for welcoming us into your home, and thank you Veda (and your band of Merry Men,) for doing that thing you do. Blissfully, Michael ------------------------------ End of trajectory-digest V2 #118 ********************************
