Hi, I just joined the list so thought I'd say hello to everyone! So hello! My wife and I first heard/saw Veda at the Bottom Line in NYC in January, as opener for Freedy Johnston. A totally amazing performance! We bought Spine at the show, and several weeks later bought the other 2 (studio) CD's from Ball of Flames mail order, though I must admit we still listen to Spine the most. It's such a great album. 26 Years is our favorite, also love One Hot Summer, Instructions, Bellyfish..... Saw her for the 2nd time on Saturday night (first set), again sadly the opener, and a very short set at that (and no 26 Years!). Again at the Bottom Line. This time she opened for Dan Bern, who I've never heard of before this show. Apologies for any Bern fans out there, but I found him to be--um, let me put this diplomatically--extremely overrated... Anyway, just glad to find some other fans out there! Okay, some questions: 1 - Is the Women In (E)motion live CD worth getting? Is it full band or solo? How's the sound quality? It's on the pricey side, but I'll get it if its a must have... 2 - Are there quality tapes of these Bottom Line shows I mentioned floating around? I have some good stuff (but no Veda) for trade... 3 - Does she ever play as a headliner in the NYC area? 4 - Does she play more as a solo performer or with the band? I loved both shows, but prefer the full band. Um...imagine a cross between Bob Dylan and Paulie Shore! He's sort of a California surfer guy with a very nasal Dylanesque voice, and he's one of those folk singers who does a lot of "funny" songs (kind of like Christine Lavin or Dar Williams, except with a LOT less talent, IMO). I just found him profoundly annoying, especially the song about how he is able to get women to take their clothes off for him by pretending to be a painter. Still, most of the audience seemed to be totally into it, so obviously your mileage may vary. I did enjoy my first "Veda live" experience...if only she'd had the time to do more than a 30 minute set...it just left me wanting more! - --Sue Trowbridge * albany, california trow@slip.net * www.interbridge.com ------------------------------ End of trajectory-digest V2 #74 *******************************
