["jeF kearns" ] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Sun, 2 Aug 1998 14:29:10 -0400 From: Meredith Tarr Subject: Veda at the Bottom Line Hi! Veda completed her two-night stand at The Bottom Line opening for Dan Bern last night. I wasn't able to be there on Friday (instead I was up in MA at The Iron Horse seeing Susan Werner, who incidentally is Veda's labelmate now), but I was at both shows last night. Only for Veda would I subject myself to the aural horror that is Dan Bern ... but that's all I'll say about that. The early set was pretty standard fare: what I've come to think of as her "get to know me" set list. "Slumber Queen", "Bellyfish", "Strange, Sad", "Driven", "One Hot Summer", "Small", "INSTRUCTIONS", and the new piano song, "Our Woman Afraid of Nothing", which is already one of my favorites of hers. She sounded great and got a really good response from the crowd. It was clear many people in the crowded room were there to see her. The late set was, in a word, amazing. She didn't duplicate one song, and when she started off with "26 Years" I knew it was going to be a good half hour. She followed it with "With No Caring", "Sweet" (accompanied at one point by someone in the audience whistling the saw part :), "In The Neighborhood" (!), "Clumsy" and the other new guitar song she always follows it with, I don't know the title (those were the only two guitar songs of the set); "Once In A Lifetime" and finally "And Birds". I taped both sets and as far as I know they came out fine. If anyone taped anything on Friday let me know and we'll work out a deal - I hear tell she did yet another new song that I haven't heard yet. I didn't get much of a chance to talk to Veda, but I did learn that there is an interview set to come out in the next issue of Performing Songwriter magazine; and that she will be back in New York on August 23 and 24 with Kinnie Starr, doing dates at The Knitting Factory and Meow Mix (not sure which night is which). As I get more info I will of course post it here and on the news page. Oh, and one more administrative note: my computer died a few days ago, and until the new hard drive arrives I won't be on too much. I don't figure that will be much of an issue around here, but there you go, just in case. :) Meredith (.sig in limbo) meth@smoe.org ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 02 Aug 1998 19:57:27 PDT From: "jeF kearns" Subject: for Trajectory list. Hi! This is jeF. I was just thinking that it would be cool if Veda Hille and Weeping Tile toured together (since they're both Canadian, and their music would beautifully compliment each other). That's all i have to say, except: someone on this list was supposed to make a cd for me, but i've lost his email address and mailing address, so i don't know where to send the tape he wanted. So if that person could contact me, i would be elated. good-by f/now. jeF. emali: jeFkearns@hotmail.com ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ End of trajectory-digest V2 #73 *******************************
