So, nyc-area folk, the Bottom Line nears! I was right -- I am going to be coming straight from the airport, though if I can't get an earlier flight out of Chicago we'll be stuck having to go to the late show. Yuck. Michael inquired: >Ooh ooh me me! But of course... the Bottom Line is one block from my >office at NYU. I'd like Dorothy (my BW) to come too, but she's got a >meeting early. If Veda is on late enough (9:00) we can make the early >show, otherwise it's not clear yet which show I'll see. So I guess we'll either see you coming out or going in. :) I don't know what the order of performance is. >Do you know if >it's solo or band? She'll be mit Smokin' Combo. Yay! Jeffrey posted: > Does anyone know when the Emily Carr CD will be available? > I was thinking it would make a nice gift to give for > Christmas, but I doubt it will be available by then. There haven't been any official dates announced that I know of, but Veda did say that it would be available on the Net before the official release date, which is sometime in January. I don't know if the pre-release period will be in time for Christmas, but I'm sure we'll be hearing more details soon. I'll ask Veda on Thursday and report back. :) > By the way, I see that Veda is playing in Portland > on Nov. 21 with Lucy Kaplansky. I would love to see > that show. Lucy Kaplansky's second album, Flesh and > Bone, is marvelous, especially the song "Still Life". > A little more straightforward folk than Veda, but still > very good. Should be a great show. Lucy Kaplansky is one of those people I just Don't Get. She's one of the best backup singers out there (she just *knows* when and how to harmonize to the best effect, especially when she's backing up Richard Shindell -- their voices go especially well together), but on her own I really can only take her in small doses. Her nasal voice grates on me after a while, and her songwriting has lots of room left for improvement, imho. I'm sure those who see her open for Veda will find the show to be full of contrasts as far as talent is concerned -- that was certainly the case when I saw her open for Susan McKeown earlier this year. But that's just my own bitchy opinion. :) Speaking of stark contrasts in the talent department, both Lucy and Veda are on the bill with Dan Bern in Portland. Don't even get me STARTED on him! woj and I are off to see Susan Werner at the Iron Horse. Another incredible live musician... See some of you Thursday evening! +==========================================================================+ | Meredith Tarr meth@smoe.org | | New Haven, CT USA http://www.smoe.org/~meth | +==========================================================================+ | "things are more beautiful when they're obscure" -- veda hille | |***TRAJECTORY, the Veda Hille mailing list: trajectory-request@smoe.org***| +==========================================================================+ ------------------------------ End of trajectory-digest V1 #34 *******************************
