Alas I won't be able to make it to either show, which is a bummer since I've been wanting to check out Dee Carstensen for a long time. (If anyone else out there is interested in the Dee Carstensen gig, be warned it's part of WFUV's "Required Listening" series (which, of course, featured Veda this past summer), so Dee's only going to have a 20-minute set.) But we'll be seeing Susan Werner that night, so I'm not too disappointed. ;) Since we're bandying about things to do in that dry spell before Veda's world tour comes back to our respective necks of the woods, here's something for you L.A.-types who are into inventive theater. From December 2 through the 28th at the Geffen Playhouse (310-208-5454) Mabou Mines' production of _Peter and Wendy_ will take place. It's a magical adaptation of J.M. Barrie's _Peter Pan_, using puppets and one live actor (who provides *all* of the voices), all accompanied by a Celtic musical score composed by Johnny Cunningham and performed by a who's-who of Celtic musicians featuring Susan McKeown on vocals. (The "soundtrack" has just been released on Alula Records, and it's phenomenal.) I saw this earlier this year in New York, and it was one of the best pieces of theater I've ever seen. Listening to the album I'm still moved by it. If you're at all into reliving your childhood for even a few hours at a time, I highly recommend it. I wish I were going to be in L.A. so I could see it again (there are rumors going around that the production will be coming back to NYC in the spring, but nothing's for sure yet). So that's my contribution to your cultural lives for the evening. Enjoy. :) +==========================================================================+ | Meredith Tarr meth@smoe.org | | Boonton, NJ USA http://www.smoe.org/~meth | +==========================================================================+ | "things are more beautiful when they're obscure" -- veda hille | |***TRAJECTORY, the Veda Hille mailing list: trajectory-request@smoe.org***| +==========================================================================+ ------------------------------ End of trajectory-digest V1 #29 *******************************
