I know a few places that might still have copies - post a list and if I can't find somewhere you can buy the thing I may even rip an mp3 for you, because we're nice here, and like people who want to buy the albums and singles and so on, right? Or I imagine Sainsburys et al are doing chart cds for #9.99. I like the picture of the cd on the inside rear cover behind the cd itself. Am a little worried this means I'm abnormal. But not that worried. I am on fourth listen now, and it's growing on me, but my immediate impression was that I didn't like it as much as the last two. I read EW's review calling Beth boring as dishwater or some such, with which I vehemently disagree. But then being a reviewer/critic myself, I know all critics have their heads buried deep inside their own anal cavities... There's an immediacy, and urgency that I heard in _Central Reservation_ that seems missing in _Daybreaker_. I am listening to "Concrete Sky" right now, which I like. So far I haven't found any rivals for my fave Beth songs, like "Feel to Believe," "Stolen Car," "Sweetest Decline," "Live As You Dream," and "Touch Me With Your Love." But then again I often have to listen to CDs many times for them to work their way into my soul. Some do so immediately (like _Central Reservation_ did) but it's unrealistic to expect that experience every time. I wish I had caught her on this tour because when I saw her last (1997 or 1998 in NYC), her performance enhanced and increased my love for all the work on _Trailer Park_. peace chris ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 1 Aug 2002 11:33:12 EST From: sufan@i-2000.com Subject: Beth Photos i've some decent photos from sunday's gig in central park beth had a band-aid over her right eye saying she fell up the stairs... i enjoyed the new arrangement of anywhere and the mid-section of carmella nyc tim - --------------------------------------------- This message was sent using I-2000 Web Mail. http://www.i-2000.com/ ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 01 Aug 2002 13:44:43 -0400 From: BritPele@aol.com Subject: Re: Daybreaker thoughts/Central Park I was at Summerstage on Sunday! Twas a great event, and Beth was adorable. I loved how she came out with the cigarette at the end and the guy in front of me yelled "put out that cigarette!" She just gave him a funny look and put it out! And my favorite beth quote "I just saw someone who looked like me in the audience and I thought I was in the audience!" Who knew she was so loopy . . . I was so nervous for her during Feel to Believe because she herself sounded soooooo nervous, but she totally loosened up and Concrete Sky, Mt Washington, and Best Bit were among my highlights :) As for the opening acts, that guy Adam Green is apparently in the much-hyped Moldy Peaches, and who didn't appreciate his ridiculous songs about Jessica Simpson, getting head under the rainbow, etc. I am actually friends with Jeff Lewis's (the second opening act) girlfriend, who actually got on stage to sing that velvet underground song with him, but I still must say, he was AWFUL!!! Shame on Rough Trade for signing them both! Emery ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 2 Aug 2002 01:54:25 +0100 From: "Robert Nicholls" Subject: Beth on Radio 1 Five or Six Years Ago? Hi Everyone, I've searched high and low, but I can't find any info to back this up. Can anyone else remember Beth playing a live set on Radio 1 where she had a clove of garlic or something in her mouth that she ends up swallowing and almost choking to death on halfway through a song (Someone's Daughter?)? It might have been with Mary Anne Hobbs, probably about 5-6 years ago, but I could be wrong. Has anyone got a copy of the live session, or remember it happening? Honestly. Just give it a few more listens. It has a different feel to it so it's hard to compare to her fantastic previous work. My face track seems to change almost daily, I don't know why. Currently it's Anywhere. I'm hoping to see her live in Southampton :) Rob Nicholls - -----Original Message----- From: owner-trailer-park@smoe.org [mailto:owner-trailer-park@smoe.org] On Behalf Of Alan Friedman Sent: 02 August 2002 03:10 To: trailer-park@smoe.org Subject: Re: Daybreaker Chris, Have only heard the CD once, but agree that there is nothing that has immediately grabbed me the way some earlier songs did (for example, on CENTRAL RESERVATION, "Stolen Car," "Blood Red River," and "Devil Song").
