SO to recap, she was on later...with jools holland (i have no idea how long ago this actually aired in the UK), and i saw only one song: someone's daughter. i have to say that she sounded horrible-- she sounded like she was rushing, and she sang the whole song is a kind of low monotone. i gather, though, that it's no uncommon for her to appear totally uncomfortable in live tv performances. for the clothes-watchers among us, she was wear a medium length, cream-color sundress thing, with bigass red flowers all over it. no hats. cheers, martha - ----- Original Message ----- From: Angerica To: Sent: Sunday, August 08, 1999 2:30 PM Subject: BBCA > > I think BBCA is BBC america....its a brit radio station but for america > > ------------------------------ > > > > Date: Fri, 6 Aug 1999 21:30:04 EDT > > From: BRAAT69@aol.com > > Subject: Beth on BBCA > > > > Did anybody tape Beth on Friday, August 6, 1999, on BBCA? I just loved these two answers: **** emtee6: Do you have one guitar that you find better to write with, or is one instrument just as good as another? Beth Orton:I've got a Martin D 28 that I like to tune down. Ben Harper sold it to me. That's one I like to play on and mess around on. *affects throaty English seaman's voice* Ahhh, just give me any old thing to fuck around on and I'll write ya a song. **** aaliyahhernandez: if you can meet any star who would it be? Beth Orton:Venus...Every man, every woman is a fuckin' star....d'you know what I mean? **** "There's no point turning to some tarot-card wielding, chakra realigning, anti-oxidant-taking self-help guru to solve your existential angst, because they're not feeling fabulous either ... I'm glad then that no one noticed that I put my "hand up for SELVES".. *phew* :) >I like it a lot. Actually, it's the first that I heard of Beth Orton, >when they played it on KCRW a couple of times when DYOH had just barely >come out. They said, "And that's Beth Orton singing vocals...." and I >tried to find out more. I swear that I heard an acoustic version of >"Where Do I Begin" (the DYOH track with Beth on it) on KCRW as well, >although it's not on any of the shows that she's done on Morning Becomes My server is finally quick enough to do the real audio thing... so yesterday I listened to all three of the KCRW sessions. 97,98 & 99. As a result, yesterday I heard two songs that I hadn't heard before. One was a b-side "Safety" from the SCYN single, and the track I asked about last week "Where do I begin". i finally heard it. yay.. i do like it... and then there was "Touch me with your love" acoustic... that was a bit of a highlight as well... that's on the US release of Best Bit ep isn't it? have to track that down someday! So I also heard a lot of beth's chit chat in the interviews... she is so sweet! and funny... then she goes and plays this breathtakingly beautiful music... is their anything not to love about beth orton? Yesterday at like 1am in the morning, before I went to bed I heard on the radio a track by Red Snapper. and that was annoying me... why the name red snapper sounded so familiar... then during the interviews she mentioned red snapper.. and I remembered! in the liner notes on Trailer Park.. Red Snapper introduced her to Terry Callier's music... Isn't it nice how answers come along so quickly! Now I can have a listen to some of the other kcrw sessions.. especially Morcheeba! I think I listened to "Blindfold" about 10 times last week. Big Calm is one of my fav's.. and i've never really heard anything from the band.. interviews or publicity or anything.. so it'll be good to hear those sessions.. And Jeff Buckley from 1994... hmm.. that'd be a gooden.
