This week (Aug 4) she will do a recording studio session with listeners who won tickets via WFNX. Also, next weekend (Aug 7) she is playing the Newport Folk Festival in Newport Rhode Island. http://www.pollstar.com/tour/vn.cgi?Venue="Newport+Folk+Festival,+Newport,+R I" Looks like some great promotion by Arista! Now that I've converted several people to my way of thinking, or rather, hearing, I'm afraid I'm going to have to recant my previous suggestion of selves and change my vote to "slopes." After *another* careful aural examination, I can now hear slopes. 1. You can actually hear the 'l' in slopes. It's really quiet, but it distinctly comes off as s-lo, almost like a "suh-lo..." but really fast. 2. If you sing the phrase yourself, you can see that it's easy to slide right past the 'p' sound by not actually touching your lips together when you try to sing it quickly. Then it comes off like maybe a very soft b, and the long 'o' in slopes can readily change sound as well. This is a ridiculous post, but I can't help myself somehow. The suggestion that we ask Beth what the line is in tomorrow's chat is still a very good one. And what's it called? Is it a good song? (answer that objectively people :)) Does it have a similar feel to the song they have done for the new album "Surrender" with Hope Sandoval (you know that very tidy/sexy voice behind Mazzy Star)?.. I guess i should buy "Dig Your Own Hole"... if you look at the songs you hear on the radio now they seem to be using the Chemical Brothers sound... Anyway, before I do... what have you lot got to say about it? And what about The Chemical Brothers "Exit Planet Dust" (1995) which also includes vocals by Beth Orton?? I had never heard about this one before. One more thing... Sessions @ west 54th street will be starting on Channel V this week in Australia... So... any australian's on this list? Kaisie tsoser or whoever you were... *being the only australian i know on this list* do you have Channel V? I'd love to be warned if Beth's session happens to turn up so I can find someone to tape it for me... Is Channel V Foxtel or Optus Vision...? that is all bye byee "There's no point turning to some tarot-card wielding, chakra realigning, anti-oxidant-taking self-help guru to solve your existential angst, because they're not feeling fabulous either ... Why don't BMG buy the rights and distribute it? Australian video format is different to American apparently.. so even if the Sessions people sold videos of it it would still be no good for me... my best hope still is that it will be shown on Channel V.. and I can find someone to tape it... *fingers crossed* "There's no point turning to some tarot-card wielding, chakra realigning, anti-oxidant-taking self-help guru to solve your existential angst, because they're not feeling fabulous either ... Is it a good song? (answer that objectively > people :)) I like it a lot. Actually, it's the first that I heard of Beth Orton, when they played it on KCRW a couple of times when DYOH had just barely come out. They said, "And that's Beth Orton singing vocals...." and I tried to find out more. I swear that I heard an acoustic version of "Where Do I Begin" (the DYOH track with Beth on it) on KCRW as well, although it's not on any of the shows that she's done on Morning Becomes Eclectic. When I saw Beth's album in Tower at their new release price, I took a chance and bought it, hoping to find that acoustic version. I was disappointed when it wasn't on the album, and pretty much dismissed the album from my mind after a cursory listen, not being too terribly impressed. It was about 2 months later when I just found it sitting there among all my other cd's, having forgotten all about it. I popped it in for another listen, and this time, I fell in complete and total love with it. To sum up. It's a good song. But I still don't own Exit Planet Dust, although I'd buy it if I ever found it used, and not just for Beth. > Does it have a similar feel to the song they have done for the > new album "Surrender" > with Hope Sandoval (you know that very tidy/sexy voice behind > Mazzy Star)?.. I haven't heard this song, but I'd definitely like to. > I guess i should buy "Dig Your Own Hole"... if you look at the > songs you hear > on the radio now they seem to be using the Chemical Brothers sound... > Anyway, before I do... what have you lot got to say about it? > > And what about The Chemical Brothers "Exit Planet Dust" (1995) > which also includes > vocals by Beth Orton?? I had never heard about this one before. "Alive Alone." I like this one a bit less. It's this kind of droney trancy thing. It's never really grabbed me. But it's pleasant enough.
